Project summary
[edit]Briefly summarize your project proposal.
The Art and Feminism: Nigerian Women in Sport is a project that aims to enhance the visibility and recognition of Nigerian women in sports by creating, editing, and improving both Wikipedia and Wikidata articles focused on their recognition, contributions and impact. This project addresses the gender gap and underrepresentation of women across sports, with a particular emphasis on highlighting lesser known/underrepresented sports played by women, such as basketball, volleyball, among others. Also In addition this project aims at spotlighting not only the athletes but other female administrative such as female coaches, administrators, Journalists among others. In addition to improving existing Wikipedia articles on women in sports, we also will be enhancing the accuracy and accessibility of these profiles by creating audio recordings of the correct pronunciation of the athletes names which will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Once available, these audio files will be embedded within their respective Wikipedia articles, ensuring that readers not only learn about their accomplishments but also know how to pronounce their names correctly. This will help promote better representation of women in sports while making information more user friendly and globally accessible. Workshops and edit-a-thons will engage sports enthusiasts, feminists, and gender equality advocates in expanding Nigerian women in sports on Wikimedia platforms.

Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- One day physical training session : The training session will focus on introducing participants to the core objectives of the Art and Feminism campaign. It will provide an overview of what Art and Feminism is involved with, including an introduction to past WikiProjects that have worked toward addressing gender gaps in representation. Participants will also be introduced to Wikipedia, learning how they can actively contribute by editing existing articles and creating articles with emphasis on Nigeria women in sport
Additionally, the session will cover Wikidata, guiding participants on how to input data entries related to women in sports. Another key component will be training on how to upload audio files to Wikimedia Commons, specifically using the Spell4wiki app. This app, developed by the Wikimedia community, enables users to easily record and upload audio files for use on wiki commons, making it simpler to document the pronunciation of names and terms associated with Nigerian women in sports. The session aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to contribute to these platforms effectively.
Edit-a-thon contest: After the training, a contest will be held where participants will apply their new skills by contributing to Wikipedia, Wikidata and wiki commons. The top contributors will be awarded prizes to recognize their efforts and encourage continued participation in closing the gender gap and improving representation on Wikimedia platforms.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal?
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
I have informed the wikimedia Nigeria about my project proposal Below is the link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_User_Group_Nigeria
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
Awareness Advocacy: We will raise awareness about the campaign by distributing E-fliers. These E-fliers will inform interested personnel about the campaign’s objectives and highlight the upcoming events.
Communication: leveraging on the platform of past member of the University of Ilorin Wikimedian Fan Club, I will utilize the fan club’s WhatsApp platform to create awareness among community members. This platform will help reach participants who may be interested in the campaign, allowing me to share important updates and encourage active participation from those who are eager to contribute ,Our primary means of communication with community members will be through our WhatsApp platform. This will allow us to stay connected, share updates about the project, and provide guidance on how they can actively participate.
We will also leverage various social media platforms to publicize the campaign and encourage participants to join the campaign's Meta page for updates on the project and contest outcomes.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify
user:favourdare123 I will be leading this project, drawing on both my expertise and passion for advancing the visibility of women in sports. Having worked on various Wikimedia campaigns and contributed extensively to related projects, I have gained valuable experience in organizing and managing campaigns that promote gender equality and representation. My deep interest in the contributions of women in sports will guide the project’s direction, enabling me to provide insights and ideas on how best to highlight the achievements of female athletes, coaches, and sports administrators. This personal connection to the subject will help ensure that the project is impactful and effectively raises awareness about the often-overlooked sports played by women.
user:jessephu will co-facilitate this project and assist with communication, leveraging his role as the current General Secretary of the University of Ilorin Wikimedian Fan Club. A passionate sports enthusiast, he will play a major role in teaching participants how to add audio recordings to Wikimedia Commons. His expertise in the technical aspects of Wikimedia platforms, combined with his love for sports, will ensure that the audio content related to women in sports is accurately recorded and uploaded, further enriching the project’s impact. 5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Our targeted participants will have reliable internet connections to ensure seamless contributions throughout the campaign. To further enhance their experience, all participants will be instructed to download the Spell4wiki app prior to and during the physical event. This app will simplify the process of recording and uploading audio files to Wikimedia Commons, making it easier for them to contribute without any technical challenges. By using Spell4wiki, participants will be able to document the pronunciations of names and terms related to Nigerian women in sports efficiently, helping enrich content across Wikimedia platforms.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
We will engage participants after the event through our dedicated WhatsApp community chat created at the cause of the event. Following the edit-a-thon, we will host open sessions within the group where participants can seek help with any issues they encounter while editing or contributing especially while adding recordings on Wikipedia. This platform will also allow us to provide ongoing support and encourage participants to stay involved with follow up activities in the broader global Art and Feminism community, ensuring they remain active and connected. 7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

- I strongly endorse this project is a great opportunity to close the gender gap in sports representation, ensuring Nigerian women athletes, coaches, administrators, and others are recognized for their contributions. It not only elevates their profiles on platforms like Wikipedia and Wikidata but also promotes accessibility through audio pronunciation files. Engaging sports enthusiasts and advocates will further amplify this impact.jessephu (talk) 12:,30, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
