Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Campus Outreach: Enabling content creation and digital literacy in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria
Project summary
[edit]Briefly summarize your project proposal.
Every community and campus count in being part of Wikimedia on contributing to the biggest online encyclopedia. In Anambra State, Wikimedia has not really been introduced in all the campuses, considering that there are over seven Universities (including Federal State and Privately owned), over five Polytechnics and over two Colleges of Education. These academic communities have capable human resources that can contribute quality edits and fill the gaps of content creation on educational contexts. Similarly, there are Wikimedia editors from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Nigeria. Some of them belong to Anambra Network (both students and staff) but it still has a population that can add value to Wikimedia.
This project is set to officially announce the existence of Wikimedia to the University management and the Faculty. It will enable digital literacy to both the students and the members of the academic community. There will be facilitation on Wikipedia and Wikidata to fill the gap of the academic contents as well as prepare NAU for more Wikimedia programs in the future. The activity will last for 2 weeks to achieve the goal of total quality contribution and participation.

Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
One training and edit-a-thon with 2 weeks editing contest
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
Yes. The community members know about it. We discussed it in our monthly meeting. We also have our social media platforms where it will be shared, once it is approved.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
The information will be shared on our existing WhatsApp platform, on our social media handles, at our monthly meetings and the on-wiki spaces. The members will also receive the message through their mails. We will also create a meta for the program.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify
5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
The participants have smart phones, laptops and other electronic resources that enable digital participation on Wikimedia. They will be trained on how to use these devices.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
The participants will be followed up for mentoring by constant engaging with screen videos for more learning. They will also be added to the whatsaap for bonding and more learning with peers.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
This project will create the bonding needed for the establishment of NAU Fan Club which has been applied for. The fact that some students and the staff of the University have been contributing and participating over the years, it is important that the activity is brought to their door step for official notification of the management for seamless approval.
