Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

The International Human Rights Day, celebrated every year on December 10th, marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. This historic document proclaims the inalienable rights that every human being is entitled to, regardless of race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. It serves as the foundation for freedom, justice, and peace in the world. Human rights challenges are visibly present in the current global challenges, such as issues around inclusion, equality, climate justice, freedom of expression, and access to education or health care.

In recent years, rising inequality, social injustice, and human rights abuses both online and offline have made the observance of this day even more relevant. Around the world, marginalized and vulnerable groups continue to face discrimination, exclusion, and violations of their fundamental rights. Now more than ever, there is a need to amplify this cause, raise awareness, educate communities, and mobilize individuals toward promoting and protecting human rights. This will help to provide important discussion to reflect on, progress made, challenges faced, and actions needed to ensure that all rights are protected and upheld for all people.

This proposed commemoration aims to localize these global conversations, engage young people and community members, and provide practical tools for advocacy and social change through documentation of notable quote of human rights activist on Wikiquote, and translation of human rights contents to Igbo language.
