From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • This project aims to document and preserve traditional occupations and indigenous craftsmanship in Southeast Nigeria through photography and media contributions to Wikimedia Commons. Many local professions and traditional skills are gradually disappearing due to modernization, yet they remain poorly represented within the Wikimedia ecosystem.

The project will organize a training session and a photo documentation campaign where participants will learn about Wikimedia Commons, free licensing, photography ethics, image categorization, and metadata improvement. Participants will photograph traditional occupations such as blacksmithing, basket weaving, palm wine tapping, pottery, carpentry, fishing, traditional food processing, and local trading activities. The project will document local occupations on Wikimedia Commons, improving cultural representation and access to knowledge.
