Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Historical and cultural structures: WikiLovesMonument
Project summary
[edit]Briefly summarize your project proposal. The campaign on #Wikilovesmonument is a testament that the culture and history are valued and acknowledged for human existence. Such buildings that depict structures tell stories of great events, people and beliefs. Thus, it becomes important that culture and histories are relieved for sustainable progressive society. This is also emphasized as part of education in SDG 4 and building strong cities and communities (SDG 11) with histories for indigenous knowledge.
There are great numbers of monuments in and around Anambra state that need to be captured and given visibilities in Wikimedia. The essence is to show the pride and values attached to our structures as well as promote our own. It also has the potentials of driving tourism which builds our communities. When such stories are not told, our part of history seems to be forgotten and hidden.
It will be a pleasure to collate the histories and cultures structured into Monuments for display in wikicommons. Thus, it will be a learning and celebration spaces. The language will be English and will be translated in Igbo. However, there will first be a meeting online to explain the modalities of the activity with the campaign guidelines and expectations. The members of the Network will be grouped into two groups to cover Awka axis and Onitsha for photo shoot of Monuments. These two locations are the big cities that have several monuments to collate. The photos will be uploaded to commons on the day mapped out for the Anambra Network Anniversary.

- The members of the Network are aware of the upcoming event. It has been discussed in our past various activities and our monthly training sessions. They know about the activity and are looking forward to it.
Again, we have our social media platform where our activities and announcements are shared. Once this is approved, we will go online again and give it more visibility
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- The photowalk will be announced on the on-wiki spaces, social media platforms. We will print fliers and share online as well as send messages and through our monthly online meetings. There will be dashboard to track the activities of the participants. It will also be captured in our metapage.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

- The participants have smartphones and other devices that enable digital photoswalk and shooting, uploading and other activities
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- There will be continuous follow-up on WhatsApp and over-the-phone apps. Besides, new editors will be added to the larger group of Anambra Network
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Strong support No one can tell our story better than us. Capturing our historical and cultural structures will help us to not just gain knowledge on things we might not have known about our culture, but also tell our cultural story to the world in a more beautiful way. I strongly support this project #Goodymeraj (talk) 19:51, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
