Project summary

This project is a community-based initiative which will be organized by two dedicated Wikimedians, User:Ibrahim Sani Mustapha and User:Lawan Bala. The project aims to document and promote Bauchi State’s rich cultural expressions, focusing on traditional Tashe activities, Sallah preparations, and festival celebrations through photography and multimedia contributions to Wikimedia Commons. The project will be implemented through a one-day physical training workshop where participants will learn about Wiki Loves Africa, basic photography skills, and how to upload media to Wikimedia projects. After the training, participants will take part in a documentation contest to encourage active contribution and wider participation. This initiative seeks to preserve local heritage, increase free knowledge about Bauchi’s culture, and engage new contributors in the Wikimedia movement.

It's one day physical event and a contest
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
I have let them know through Bauchi Wikimedian community (WhatsApp group).
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
I will let them know about the training by phone call, SMS and by reaching out via social media channels.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

Yes they have the equipment and skills which will help them to participate and contribute a high quality contents.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)? I will engage them by follow up the participants through our WhatsApp group.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
This project will help preserve and share Bauchi State’s cultural heritage by documenting Tashe activities, Sallah preparations, and festival celebrations on Wikimedia projects. It will also introduce new contributors to Wiki Loves Africa and strengthen the local Wikimedia community in Bauchi, creating lasting impact beyond the event.

WMF dashboard tool will be used for tracking the contributions.
Contest & prize-giving events
[edit]How would decide the winners of your contest (If you are going to have a contest, what is your scoring criteria)
Winners will be selected based on the quality and relevance of their submissions to the project theme. Entries will be judged on media quality, originality, clarity of descriptions, and compliance with Wikimedia Commons guidelines. Contributions that best document Tashe and Sallah cultural traditions in Bauchi State with high educational value will score higher.

The project is organized and led by two dedicated Wikimedians, User:Ibrahim Sani Mustapha and User:Lawan Bala, who have experience in coordinating Wikimedia community activities and engaging new contributors. They will be responsible for overall project planning, participant mobilization, and coordination of the one-day physical training and documentation contest.
User:Kamal JB will serve as a facilitator for the project and will support the training sessions by guiding participants on Wiki Loves Africa guidelines, basic photography and documentation skills, and how to upload media to Wikimedia Commons.
