This Wikimania @20 event will be held in Jos, The event will mark the 20th anniversary of Wikimania, one of the most prominent global gatherings for Wikipedia editors, enthusiasts, and knowledge-sharing advocates. The celebration will be held in Jos, bringing together a diverse group of local and international Wikimedians, as well as new participants, to promote the values of free knowledge and foster deeper engagement within the Jos Wikimedia communities.

Through this event, we aim to celebrate the milestones of Wikimania, strengthen the local community, introduce new contributors, and create an enduring impact by fostering collaborations that extend beyond the event itself. See more about Jos here

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

Day 1 – Physical Workshop for 20th Wikimania Celebration:

We will Cut the cake and Celebration Wikimania 20th Anniversary and Introduction to Wikimedia platforms to participants.

Hands-on editing and account creation.

Day 2 Training and Edit-a-thons ( sessions):

Guided article improvement and creation sessions for Hausa Wikipedia and Wiktionary (in-person or hybrid).

Then Writing Contest:

Participants will competition to create/improve the most high-quality articles during the project period.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Yes, some of them have a smart phones and some have a computers

I will continue engaging them via Whatsapp group that I was created, to solving there issues.

The Wikimania 20th Celebration in Jos, promises to be an exciting milestone for the local and global Wikimedia communities. With your support, we aim to make this event not only a celebration of Wikimedia’s growth but also a springboard for future contributions and collaboration in Jos Community.

Contest & prize-giving events

How would decide the winners of your contest (If you are going to have a contest, what is your scoring criteria) Winners will be selected based on the quality and quantity of their contributions. Points will be awarded for creating new Wikipedia and Wiktionary articles, improving existing ones, A panel of experienced Wikimedians will review all contributions using the Wikipedia foundation Outreach Dashboard. The top contributors with the highest points will receive prizes and the top 5 received their souvenirs gifts.
