Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • Azare is the second largest city in Bauchi State, after the state capital, Bauchi. There has never been a Wikimedia project in Azare or its surrounding areas. I plan to organize a two-day awareness event about Wikipedia in Azare. During this event, we will visit various locations in the city and distribute flyers to inform people about Wikipedia and its sister projects. Additionally, we will hold a two-day training session to teach participants all aspects of Wikipedia editing and contributions.

Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

It consists of two days of awareness tours and two days of training sessions. During these tours, we will visit the College of Education Azare. We will capture photos of various locations in Azare town to upload to Wikimedia Commons. The training sessions will be held at the College of Education Azare. In each school, we will train 20 participants during these sessions.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

They will know via Hausa Community General WhatsApp group and Hausa Wikipedia Discussion page

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify

User:Sirjat

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

The participants are all new editors, meaning they have no prior experience with Wikipedia. However, they possess writing skills, as I intend to train students and lecturers primarily from the Hausa Department. They also have smartphones and internet skills.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

I will create a WhatsApp Group

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
