Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Mapping/Improving the Landscape of Nigerian Media Houses on Wikidata

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • Media houses are central to Nigeria’s communication ecosystem, shaping public opinion, promoting cultural identity, and supporting democracy. Documenting them on Wikidata ensures global visibility, enriches open data resources, and aids researchers, journalists, developers, and policy analysts in accessing verified information. This effort not only promotes open knowledge but also contributes to digital inclusion by representing Nigerian media infrastructure in a widely used global knowledge base. This project aims to create and improve structured, accessible data about Nigerian media houses on Wikidata. It focuses on television stations, radio stations, newspapers, and cinema houses across Nigeria. The initiative involves an edit-a-thon where participants will create and enhance Wikidata items for these institutions, ensuring that they are accurately represented and interlinked with relevant information.
