Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

Designed to confront systemic gender bias and information gaps online, "Kebbi Women on Wikipedia" is a focused initiative dedicated to elevating the representation of prominent women from Kebbi State across Wikipedia and its sister platforms. Operating in Birnin Kebbi, the project empowers local women with essential digital literacy and open-access editing skills. Through structured, hands-on workshops, this campaign aims to cultivate a sustainable local community of female contributors equipped to document and preserve the histories, achievements, and legacies of Kebbi's women using high-quality, verifiable references.

Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

The project features a two-part hybrid training structure: one comprehensive in-person workshop followed by a strategic online session. This dual approach ensures deep initial onboarding while maintaining momentum to guide participants toward effectively creating and expanding biographical entries for notable women from Kebbi State.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

Information regarding this initiative will be circulated through active local community channels, specifically leveraging localized Wikimedia community WhatsApp groups to ensure broad regional awareness.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Outreach will rely on direct physical invitations targeted at relevant demographics alongside digital promotions across established WhatsApp community networks.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify

Umar

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

While attendees possess personal devices, they will receive intensive, step-by-step technical guidance throughout the live sessions and dedicated asynchronous mentorship afterward to guarantee high-quality contributions.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Post-event engagement and retention will be maintained via a dedicated WhatsApp follow-up group, which will serve as an incubator for ongoing support, reference sharing, and editing coordination.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
