Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- The project will include one-day physical training and one-day online session for participants. Afterward, there will be a contribution challenge where editors will create and improve Wikidata items related to Jigawa’s local knowledge, including notable people, places, and institutions.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- The proposal will be shared through the Hausa Wikimedia community WhatsApp groups, Hadejia Wikimedians WhatsApp Group, and other Wikimedia networks. Past participants of Wikimedia events in Northern Nigeria will also be informed directly to encourage participation and collaboration.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- Publicity will be carried out through WhatsApp groups, posters, and local outreach in schools and youth organizations. Participants will be communicated with via WhatsApp and phone calls, while updates and reminders will be shared through a dedicated WhatsApp group for coordination.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify
5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Some participants may be new to Wikidata, but we will provide step-by-step guidance and training materials to help them learn effectively. Most participants own smartphones, and a few have laptops. The organizers will ensure stable internet access and provide support during and after the sessions to help them create high-quality data.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- Participants will be added to a follow-up mentoring group where they will continue to receive editing guidance and opportunities to participate in other Hausa Wikimedia community projects. Regular check-ins will encourage their long-term involvement in Wikidata.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- This project will increase the presence of Jigawa’s local knowledge on Wikidata. It will help bridge the content gap about Northern Nigeria by providing accurate and verifiable data. The initiative also aims to strengthen female participation and introduce more youths to open knowledge contribution.
