1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

For this project, I plan to organize a series of editathons and training sessions. This approach will allow for continuous learning and engagement, helping participants build skills over time and allowing us to steadily enrich Zaria’s representation on Wikidata. The series format will also encourage community members to contribute regularly, fostering a sustainable group of local Wikidata editors.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

To inform relevant Wikimedia communities about this proposal, I have shared initial project details with the Hausa Wikimedia group and Wikimedia Nigeria User Group, where I actively participate. I plan to post updates on community discussion pages and reach out directly to experienced members who can provide guidance and support. Additionally, I’ll use my personal social media channels, such as WhatsApp and Facebook, to reach a broader audience, invite local volunteers, and keep the community informed about upcoming editathons and training sessions.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Yes, the participants have smartphones and some have laptops

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

To engage participants after the event, I’ll host follow-up sessions for additional support, maintain a community support group on WhatsApp or Telegram, and recognize active contributors to keep them motivated. Monthly edit challenges and mentorship from experienced Wikimedia editors will encourage participants to continue contributing to Wikidata, fostering an active, skilled community focused on documenting Zaria’s heritage.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project not only aims to enrich Wikidata with information on Zaria’s cultural and historical heritage but also seeks to build a sustainable community of local contributors who will continue adding valuable content beyond the project timeline. By involving local participants and training them in Wikidata editing, the project will empower the community to preserve and promote Zaria’s heritage on a global platform, increasing local representation and awareness. This initiative also aligns with Wikimedia’s goals of diverse knowledge equity and inclusivity, as it highlights a region with unique cultural significance.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense as a unit amount and include a total amount.

1. Events' hall = N40,000×2=80,000.
2. Events' banner = N15,000.
3. Projector rental:N10,000
4. Tags and flyers: N15,0000.
5. Branded Tshirts for the organizer and Facilitator: N6,000×2=12,000
6. Food and refreshments to the participants and Facilitators = N2,000×22=N44,000 × 2 (for two days) = N88,000.
7. Contingency = 20,000.

Total amount = 240,000.
