Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • The List of articles every Wikipedia should have is a guide that helps Wikipedias create and maintain important basic articles. These articles cover key topics that everyone should know about, providing a strong foundation of information. The list helps editors focus on creating good, useful content that serves the needs of readers in their language.

This project aims to create and improve important articles on Hausa Wikipedia based on a key list of essential topics. The contest is open to all editors of Hausa Wikipedia to encourage widespread participation and better content. Physical training will be held for Wikimedians from Zaria, Kaduna State, giving them hands-on editing skills. Online training will be available for Wikimedians from Zaria and other areas, making it easier for more people to join. Together, these activities will help build strong, reliable content and grow the Hausa Wikimedia community.

Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

The project includes a one-day physical training, one-day online training, and a writing contest to engage participants in creating and improving essential Hausa Wikipedia articles.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

The proposal will be shared and communicated through the Hausa Wikimedians User Group Whatsapp group as well as the Zaria Wikimedians User Group. These platforms will provide direct outreach to active community members and contributors, ensuring the proposal reaches relevant Wikimedia editors and volunteers.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Participants will be informed about the edit-a-thon mainly through the Hausa Wikimedians User Group and Zaria Wikimedians User Group WhatsApp groups. Additionally, announcements may be made on Wikimedia on-wiki pages and social media to reach a wider audience efficiently.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify

User:Hauwa'u lawal ardo

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Participants may not all have the necessary equipment or editing skills initially. To support them, the project provides both in-person and online training covering Wikipedia basics. Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices, but access to computers and internet will be arranged if needed. Ongoing assistance ensures they can create quality content confidently.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

After the event, participants will be engaged through follow-up communications via Whatsapp groups and Meta-Wiki landing page to provide continued support and encouragement. They will be invited to join ongoing editing projects, writing contests, and future training sessions.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project will help build important articles for Hausa Wikipedia. It fills gaps in knowledge and makes useful information easy to find for Hausa speakers. We will train people how to edit Wikipedia, run edit-a-thons, and hold contests to create good content. After the event, we will keep in touch with participants to help and encourage them. This work will grow the Hausa Wikipedia community and share free knowledge in Hausa.
