- This project will introduce Wikimedia projects to students and academic staff of Newgate University Minna, with a main focus on Hausa Wikipedia and Wikidata. The goal is to help people understand the idea of open knowledge, train them to contribute, and build a strong, active community of editors at the university. This will create a foundation for lasting Wikimedia activities in the institution and inspire others in the region.

[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions: 1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- We will host a one-day Wikimedia awareness program, followed by a one-day hands-on training on Hausa Wikipedia and Wikidata. This will give participants the skills to start editing and the confidence to keep contributing in the long term.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- By posting the proposal on the Hausa Wikipedia community discussion page.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- We will invite participants using WhatsApp groups, posters around the campus, and university notice boards.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Most participants own smartphones. We will also make use of university computer facilities and guide them step-by-step during practical sessions.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- We will create a dedicated WhatsApp follow-up group where participants can ask questions, get editing help, and receive updates about future Wikimedia activities.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- This is planned as a pilot project that will lead to more Wikimedia outreach in other tertiary institutions across Niger State.

- There is no contest planned at this stage of the project.
