Project summary

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

Catching female teens at a very young age and inculcating the tech knowledge into them will make the world and Wikimedia community a better and brighter place for the future. This is a project which will work hand in hand with the ICT hub team of St John of God Secondary School, a prestigious all girls school in Awka will be an outreach and sensitization program for senior secondary youngster students who will be venturing into tertiary education soon. We will be introducing them into the Wikimedia foundation, widening their little knowledge about Wikipedia and its sister projects including creating Wikimedia accounts for them which will foster their usability of the Wikimedia projects.

This will also be an Avenue to celebrate and mark Nigeria’s Democracy with these teens and make edits around Nigeria and it’s Democratic government.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

The Wikimedia community will be duly informed about this project on the community whatsapp platform 3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

We have already informed the management of the proposed school about this project. They will prepare the students and get necessary needed support ahead of the project.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

The trainers will support the students with the necessary skills needed for this project while the school will provide the students with computers and laptops so they can be able to fully participate.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

After the event, a closed whatsapp group will be opened up where all participants will be added for further follow up and any other arising questions.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project is a one of a kind project aimed at growing our community volunteer base as well as bridging the gender gap of volunteers as all participants for this project will be the female gender.

I will create an outreach dashboard and event page on Meta to keep track of the participants and contributions for this program

I, User:Uzhor will be the Convener and Program lead. User:Sayvhior who is experienced will support strongly with his expertise. User:Bigkotech, also an experienced photographer and Wikipemedian will be supporting with photos and videos as well as logistics. The Wikimedia Usergroup Nigeria will provide support needed for this project. No other support from anywhere. What resources do you need?
