Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • FaithSpeaks is a project aimed at bringing inspiring words and teachings from Christian leaders around the world to Igbo Wikiquote so that it can be accessible, meaningful and relatable to Igbo speakers. The goal is to preserve and share the words of wisdom of respected Christian voices; pastors, priests, evangelists, missionaries and other faith leaders – by making their quotes available in the Igbo language for readers, learners and future generations. Currently, Igbo Wikiquote faces quite a number of challenges. It still has limited content, particularly in the areas that connect deeply with the interests and values of many Igbo readers, such as faith-based and inspirational teachings. There are also few experienced contributors, and many notable Christian quotations have not yet been translated or properly documented in Igbo. This makes it harder for users to find rich, well-organised content that can educate, inspire and encourage them. FaithSpeaks will address these challenges by bringing people together through edit-a-thons and practical training sessions. These activities will help contributors learn how to source reliable quotations, translate them accurately and create well-structured Wikiquote pages. Participants will work together to create and improve entries featuring verified quotes from globally recognised Christian leaders. Aside from content creation, the project will also help build a stronger editing community and encourage more people to actively contribute to Igbo Wikiquote. This project is important because it supports both language preservation and knowledge sharing. FaithSpeaks helps strengthen the online presence of the Igbo language while making valuable spiritual and educational content available to a wider audience. It also serves as an opportunity for community members to contribute to open knowledge.
