Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

This project is to be held in Jalingo, marking the first local campaign of the Taraba Network as a recognized hub under the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. The event will bring together existing Wikimedians and interested contributors to engage participants in practical Wikimedia contribution while establishing the network’s active presence in the state.

The activity will begin with a structured introduction to the Taraba Network as part of the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, its purpose, and participation pathways, followed by onboarding and orientation for contributors. A focused training session will then equip participants with the knowledge required to contribute media to Wikimedia Commons, including guidance on photography standards, documentation ethics, and upload processes.

Following the training, participants will take part in a structured contest under the Wiki Loves Africa 2026 theme “Rites and Rituals,” with emphasis on culturally appropriate and verifiable documentation from Taraba State. The contest will be supported with facilitation, connectivity, and a modest prize structure to encourage quality contributions and active participation. The event will conclude with documentation, recognition of contributors, and integration into the Taraba Network for continued engagement.

On the other hand, the project will feature a photowalk tour to document the patterns of of farming, religious rituals, daily routines, and market activitities, especially Tashan Lau market, which is the largest vegetables market in Jalingo.

These approaches ensure that the network begins its activities with immediate, measurable contribution, establishing both community presence and active participation within the Wikimedia ecosystem.
