The Wikiquote Training and Contribution Drive in Taraba is a contributor development initiative aimed at expanding participation in the Wikiquote project through practical training and guided contribution activities. The project seeks to introduce participants to the principles of Wikiquote, including the identification, verification, curation, and documentation of notable quotations from reliable and verifiable sources.
The initiative will provide contributors with practical knowledge of Wikiquote editing workflows, sourcing requirements, formatting standards, attribution practices, and project-specific guidelines. Participants will be encouraged to contribute to both the English Wikiquote and the Hausa Wikiquote Incubator, thereby supporting multilingual knowledge development while strengthening local contributor capacity.
The project will commence with a one-day physical training session that combines theoretical orientation with hands-on editing exercises. Participants will learn how to create and improve Wikiquote entries, organize quotations, and apply appropriate sourcing and citation standards. Following the training, a guided online contribution drive and local contest will be organized to sustain engagement, encourage quality contributions, and provide mentorship throughout the campaign period.
By focusing on contributor development and practical participation, the project aims to strengthen the presence of the WUGN-Taraba Network within the Wikiquote ecosystem while supporting the growth of both established and emerging language communities.

Project Goal

- Build contributor capacity in Wikiquote editing and content curation.
- Introduce participants to Wikiquote policies, formatting standards, and sourcing requirements.
- Encourage multilingual contribution through participation in the English Wikiquote and Hausa Wikiquote Incubator.
- Promote the documentation and preservation of notable quotations through open knowledge platforms.
- Strengthen contributor retention and community engagement within the Taraba Network.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will consist of a one-day physical training session introducing participants to the Wikiquote project, editing interface, contribution guidelines, citation practices, and quality standards. Practical editing demonstrations and supervised editing exercises will form a key part of the session.
The second phase will involve a two-week online contribution drive and local contest during which participants will create and improve Wikiquote entries under the guidance of experienced mentors. Regular virtual check-ins and support sessions will be organized to provide technical assistance and encourage sustained participation.

Yes, they have knowledge of Wikipedia editing, so transitioning to Wikiqoute will be easier. Also, they possess the tools necessary for the success of this initiative. We are also ready to support them with our expertise and mentorship and resouces.

The local Wikiquote contest will be assessed using a point-based system that prioritizes quality, verifiability, and adherence to Wikiquote standards.
- Creation of a new, well-structured Wikiquote page with at least three properly sourced quotations – 10 points
- Addition of a new, properly sourced and formatted quotation to an existing page – 5 points
- Significant improvement of an existing Wikiquote page (e.g., adding sourced quotations, improving structure, formatting, or references) – 5 points
- Addition of appropriate categories, templates, and page organization – 2 points
- Proper formatting and adherence to Wikiquote style guidelines – 2 points
- High-quality contribution to the Hausa Wikiquote Incubator (including translation or localization while maintaining proper sourcing) – 2 bonus points per valid contribution
Only contributions that remain retained on the platform during the assessment period and comply with Wikiquote policies will be counted. Unsourced quotations, copyrighted material, duplicate entries, machine-generated content without verification, or contributions reverted for policy violations will not receive points.
In addition to the point totals, the organizing team may give special recognition to participants who demonstrate exceptional consistency, contribution quality, and commitment to improving the overall standard of Wikiquote content throughout the campaign.
