Project summary
[edit]Briefly summarize your project proposal.
- This project is designed to introduce our editors to Wikidata Lexemes, with a focus on the Hausa language. Most of the participants have never worked with Lexemes before, so I’ll be guiding them step-by-step teaching them how to create and edit Hausa words on Wikidata. The goal is to help them understand the basics of Lexicography on Wikidata and start contributing to preserving our language in digital form.

Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- One day physical training followed by one day online follow-up session to help participants practice and get ongoing support.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- We have informed members of the Hausa Wikimedia community and Wikidata contributors through community WhatsApp groups, and personal outreach to active editors. We also plan to share the project on our social media pages.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- We will inform participants through WhatsApp messages, Hausa Wikimedia groups, social media announcements, and direct invitations to interested editors and language contributors.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify
- Yes. The event will be led and supported by experienced Hausa Wikimedia contributors such as:
5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Most participants do not yet have experience with Wikidata Lexemes. This is why the project focuses on training and mentorship. We will guide them step-by-step on how to create and edit Hausa Lexemes on Wikidata. Participants will be supported with internet access and training materials.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- After the event, we will create a WhatsApp group and follow-up with mentoring and resources to help participants continue contributing. We'll also host occasional check-ins and online office hours to assist them further.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- This project is aimed at introducing and supporting Hausa-speaking Wikimedians to contribute to Lexicographical data on Wikidata. It is a new area for many editors in our community, and this training will help expand both their skills and Hausa language content on Wikidata.
