- This project will implement Wiki Loves Africa in Kano, focusing on the 2026 theme: Rites and Rituals. We will document Ramadan traditions such as Tashe, as well as Sallah festival celebrations including Durbar festivals, capturing these cultural practices through photography and free media uploads. Activities will take place from March to early April, including workshops, mentorship for new contributors, and community engagement to strengthen local Wikimedia participation and increase representation of Kano’s cultural heritage online.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- We will organize a workshop to train participants on how to capture and upload photos, focusing on types of images related to this year’s theme, Rites and Rituals. Additionally, we will hold a photography contest and photowalk during the Sallah festival celebrations to engage participants and document Kano’s cultural heritage.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- I will let them know via Whatsapp groups
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

- Yes the participants use smartphones with good cameras and we will use a Camera during the Photowalk

Contest & prize-giving events

Winners will be selected based on:
- Relevance to the theme: How well the photo represents this year's theme, Rites and Rituals.
- Creativity and composition: Originality, framing, and visual appeal.
- Cultural significance: How well the photo showcases Kano’s traditions and festivals.
- Technical quality: Clarity, focus, and lighting.
The jury will consist of myself (with experience as Global Jury Admin for Wiki Loves Ramadan 2025 and 2026) and two facilitators. All submissions will be reviewed by the panel to choose the winners fairly.

- I User:Gwanki, I will lead all the programs with User:Usmanmaifada he's a experience Wikimedian and have access with Kano Emirate Council. He will help to have access with the relevant photos to be taken during the Photowalk. User:A'isha A Ibrahim will facilitate during the workshop and lead for Tashe documenting.
