Wikipedia at 25 – Kano is a community-based project organized by the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Kano Network to celebrate Wikipedia’s 25th birthday and mark one year of the Kano Network. The project combines a birthday celebration, Wikipedia awareness, practical editing activities, and a mini-conference for network editors. Participants will learn about Wikipedia, improve articles related to Kano and Northern Nigeria, celebrate the network’s achievements, and discuss future plans for strengthening the Wikimedia community in Kano.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings? This project will be a single combined event that includes a Wikipedia 25th birthday celebration, Wikipedia awareness session, a mini-conference for WUGN Kano Network editors, and one edit-a-thon/training workshop.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using. The proposal has been shared with members of the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Kano Network and discussed with editors within the wider Wikimedia User Group Nigeria community. Information will also be shared through community WhatsApp groups and social media platforms.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
Participants will be informed through WhatsApp groups, Facebook posts, direct messages to community members, and announcements within local Wikimedia community spaces in Kano.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them? Some participants may be new to Wikipedia editing. We will support them with basic training, step-by-step guidance, and hands-on assistance from experienced editors to help them contribute high quality content.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)? Participants will be engaged after the event through follow-up messages, WhatsApp groups, mentoring, and invitations to future Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Kano Network activities.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project? This project will be the first of its kind for the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Kano Network and will help strengthen community collaboration and long-term participation in Wikimedia projects in Kano.

The leadership of the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Kano Network will lead the project. User:Gwanki, User:M Bash Ne, and User:Usmanmaifada will jointly coordinate the planning, facilitation, and overall execution of the event.
