[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings? Training and an Edithathon
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
WUGN, Akwa Ibom Network WhatsApp group and their social media handle
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
through the WUGN, Akwa Ibom Network WhatsApp group, their social media handle and physical/online gatherings
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
Yes,most participants have access to smartphones that are capable of capturing usable images; however, their skill levels vary. To ensure the production of high-quality contributions, the project will provide practical orientation sessions covering basic photography techniques, image quality standards, copyright and free licensing principles, as well as proper uploading and categorization on Wikimedia Commons.
In addition, participants will receive hands-on guidance and continuous support throughout the documentation and upload process to ensure their contributions meet Wikimedia standards and best practices.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
Through the WhatsApp group, upcoming projects, contest, and other wikimidia programs.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
This project is not only designed as a one-time event but as a foundation for building a sustainable Wikimedia community within the University of Uyo. By engaging students through practical learning, mentorship, and continued post-event support, we aim to nurture long-term contributors who will continue to participate in Wikimedia campaigns beyond Wiki Loves Africa.
The project also presents an opportunity to improve the representation of Nigerian culture and everyday life on Wikimedia platforms by documenting local environments, traditions, and experiences that are currently underrepresented online. This aligns with the broader Wikimedia movement goal of promoting knowledge equity and increasing African content visibility.
Additionally, the organizing team has prior experience implementing Wikimedia activities and community projects, which strengthens our capacity to successfully deliver this project and achieve the proposed outcomes.
We believe this initiative will create both immediate impact through quality media contributions and long-term value through community growth and skills development among young contributors.
