Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Wikidata @13 Celebration: Awareness Program at UI Fan Club
Project summary
[edit]Briefly summarize your project proposal.
Wikidata anniversary is an annual celebration which is always celebrated by Wikimedia communities around the world to recognize the impact of Wikidata and its contribution to free knowledge and open access to structured information online. This event will serve as an opportunity to introduce participants to the basics of Wikidata and guide them on how to contribute effectively.
This campaign would be an avenue to create more awareness about the UI fan club community and also encourage more people, especially the new students on campus. Building a good background for new members to know more about the wikimedia foundation and her objectives to promote and advocate for free knowledge.

Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- We would be be having a physical program and a edit-a-thon contest
Physical program: The wikidata anniversary is a global celebration that brings Wikimedians together to celebrate one of the wikimedia sister projects that improved the database of articles through wikidata items. The aim is to celebrate the day with a brief session about wikidata and how participants can contribute to wikidata and how effectively they can use wikidata with the technical tools. This event will also be an opportunity to welcome new members into the community and introduce them to the wikimedia movement and the community. During the physical event there would be a short edit-a-thon for participants to have practical experience on wikidata.
Edit-a-thon Contest: There would be an edit-a-thon contest after the event, to enable participants to create and improve wikidata items and also be among the top contributors to win prizes during the period of the campaign.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- We have informed the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria about this proposal.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
One of the basic goals of this campaign is to create more awareness about the fan club and also expand the community reach. We would be achieving this by creating awareness about the campaign and fan Club through the use of fliers, and graphics. This would let the community and other people know about the campaign and the community.
We are going to communicate with our community members via our WhatsApp platform in order to connect with them and share information about the upcoming project and how they can effectively participate.
We would also be using various social media platforms to create more awareness about the campaign. Also, we are going to encourage our participants to join the campaign meta page so that we can track our progress. We would also make use of mails to communicate with the community members.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify
- User:IamMKO - President and facilitator
- User:Olaide07 - Co-facilitator
5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Every member has equipment and skills needed to participate. We are going to encourage everyone to come with their smartphones, Tabs, or laptops to contribute meaningfully to the project.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- We are going to reach out to everyone through our social media platforms and also reach out to them through mails and contacts provided.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Endorsements
[edit]Community members are encouraged to endorse your project request here!
- I am glad to endorse this Wikidata awareness program in celebration of the 13th years anniversary because it speaks directly to the need for more awareness and active participation in our community. Many students are still unaware of how Wikidata works or how it can be used to preserve and project our culture, history, and achievements. IamMKO (talk) 21:12, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- I am pleased to endorse as the co-facilitator for this Wikidata awareness. I have shown strong commitment to Wikimedia projects and possess both the skills and passion needed to train and guide participants effectively. Olaide07 (talk) 21:43, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
