Wikidata awareness in Ondo is a campaign focused at creating awareness about wikimedia and wikidata to the community of Ondo. This campaign is focused at bridging content gaps on wikidata on items relating to African performers, performances, music, songs,folk songs, drama, movies, directors, producers and more. With the aim of celebrating the Month of African youth by introducing the youths in Ondo to the wikimedia community and it’s goal through wikidata.

Activities

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

This Champaign will feature physical training event and edit a thon contest.

Physical training: The physical training session will serve as an Awareness session and training. Where the participants will be introduced and instructed on how to effectively contribute to wikidata. How to improve an existing wikidata item and a new wikidata item. The campaign is focused on improving and creating items related to African movies,music,songs,shows,actors,producers,performers and performances. The participants will have a short editing session to practice what they have learnt.

Edit a thon contest: there will be an edit a thon contest for 21 days, this contest will be focused on bridging the content gap on wikidata. Top participants will be rewarded after the collation of the results of the contest.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

We have informed the wikimedia Nigeria about this proposal via talk page.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Awareness Campaign: there will be general awareness on wikimedia spaces alongside physical awareness like the printing of banners to inform the people about the event. The target audience will be youth of the community.

Social media awareness: there will also be awareness about this event through different social media platforms to inform participants on how to join and participate full we will do this through the use of E fliers, poster, WhatsApp groups and status and mails

WhatsApp Group: A WhatsApp group will be created for all the participants to join. Where different information will be shared to them as regards the events, the community goals and the editing contest. This group will also help the participants connect with others and also share whatever difficulties they encounter while editing.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

the participants will be joining the event with their electronic devices like smart phones,tablet,laptop etc. this will enable them to fully participate in the editing contests and follow the entire campaign process.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Wikimedia Nigeria office hours:one of the ways through which our team aim to engage our new participants and old is to inform them of the monthly office hour via our created platform to help them grow into the community, network and gain more exposure to the wikimedia community.

Engagement on the community platform: we will engage our participants during and after the event through our social media platforms and share other activities going-on in the wikimedia community.

Contest: after the event, there will be a contest for three weeks and participants will be awarded prizes for contributing to the local contest.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This event is focused at creating Wikidata awareness with the aim of bridging content gaps on African performance and performer on wikidata. The event will be aimed at recruiting new participants and training them on how to contribute qualitative items on wikidata.

2 points for every new Wikidata item created
1 point for every statement/claim/media added
1 point for every reference url added
point for every link to a Wikimedia project

We will be having 5 winners from this campaign new and old participants categories.

User:QueenEsther0499 project lead: i will be incharge of organizing the awareness campaign and physical event. Will be organizing the participants and providing feedback and information to them about the event and physical training

User:Kingaustin07 facilitator: He is an experienced wikidata contributor and an experienced trainer. He will be introducing the participants to the wikimedia movement and to wikidata. He will also in charge of the training session and the jury of the collation of the results.

Refreshment and Take away pack during physical training (3000*20) : NGN 60,000

T shirt for team members: (7000*2): NGN 14,000

Camera rental and photography : NGN 20,000

This project not only just creates awareness for the wikimedia movement but also a insight to the importance of collated data base.
