Gombe Network of the Wikimedia UG Nigeria has had a remarkable year, contributing significantly to Wikimedia projects and fostering awareness about open knowledge in Gombe State. To build on these successes, we are organizing a one-day community meetup from December 21st, 2024. This event will allow us to reflect on our achievements, address challenges, and plan strategically for the coming year. It will also be an opportunity to strengthen our community bonding, celebrate exceptional contributors, and advance our advocacy for open knowledge.
Why this Meetup Matters
Our network has grown through different campaigns initiatives like the 1Lib1Ref, Wiki Loves Monuments , WikiForHumanRights, and emerging first position in the Wiki Loves Africa 2024 campaign. This meetup (Mini conference) offers us a chance to take stock of what we’ve accomplished, brainstorm new ideas, and set clear goals for 2025. It’s also an opportunity to show our appreciation for members who have been instrumental in driving our activities forward.

Learning and Development Session
Workshops on Wikimedia projects, open knowledge advocacy, and community engagement.
A panel discussion on community challenges and solutions.
Strategic Planning and Recognition
- Strategic discussions focused on 2025 goals, recruitment, membership retention, and ongoing projects.
- Celebration of achievements, with awards and recognition for outstanding members.
- Networking opportunities to build relationships and foster collaboration.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- Relevant community such as the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria will be notified on their talkpage.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
To inform participants about the event, the network will leverage on the following:
- Sending of Emails
- Sending of text messages
- Flyers on our social media handles
- Local media such as radio brodcast
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

- User:Meritkosy is an experienced Wikimedian assistant community lead. She will join in the meet up planning and design for a smooth operation

- This event will be a fun moment for Gombe wikimedians to learn from other people's success stories and get motivated to contribute to free knowledge.
