Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Wikimedia Nigeria Imo State Network Quarterly Fund

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • The Wikimedia Nigeria Imo State Network community currently faces several challenges, including gaps in essential skills such as basic editing, tool usage, building strong editor contributions, editor retention, and leadership development within the Wikimedia ecosystem. In addition, limited administrative resources for effective coordination have contributed significantly to these challenges within the network.
Although the monthly community support fund has been helpful, it has not been sufficient to consistently engage members in monthly editing activities that help build editing capacity and strengthen editor retention. Furthermore, the available support is not enough to effectively manage the administrative needs required to run the community.
Therefore, the Wikimedia Nigeria Imo State Network seeks support to strengthen the sustainability, coordination, and capacity of its Wikimedia community. This grant will help address key administrative needs and support community engagement activities.
As part of this initiative, the Network plans to organize two edit-a-thons within a three-month period, aligned with national holidays such as Easter and Democracy Day. During these events, participants will work on improving Wikipedia articles and Wikidata items related to these themes, including translating articles and improving existing content.
These activities will create consistent engagement within the community, allowing members to strengthen their editing skills, increase their contributions, improve our community’s overall edit ladder, and explore additional opportunities within the Wikimedia ecosystem.
Through this grant, the Network—with full participation from the committee and executive members—will organize one physical event and several follow-up online training sessions over a three-month period. The project will also include essential administrative activities such as coordination meetings, documentation, communication, and reporting.
Overall, the project aims to equip community members with relevant Wikimedia skills while strengthening the long-term sustainability and impact of the Wikimedia Nigeria Imo State Network.
