Akwa Ibom State, located in the South-South region of Nigeria, is regarded as a home to a large number of educated youth due to the high number of tertiary institutions in the region and active deployment of NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) members. Research by various Nigerian media outlets shows that approximately 10,000 corps members are received in the state annually, which creates a diverse, energetic, and tech-inclined youth audience with unexplored potential in the open knowledge space.

Despite the presence of youths in the region, the awareness of Wikimedia projects is relatively low, and this project seeks to close the gap between the vibrant group of youths and the opportunities for contributing to open knowledge. Engaging corps members is a particular opportunity to leverage their one-year service window towards learning, volunteering, and community engagement.

Akwa Ibom is rich in local culture, history, and notable individuals whose stories remain underrepresented on platforms like Wikipedia and Wikidata. This project will train and empower corps members to document these underrepresented topics by contributing well-researched content to articles on Wikipedia and Wikidata.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

One Training and Edit-a-thon session For this project, We will organize a training session where participants will be introduced to the Wikimedia ecosystem with a focus on Wikipedia and Wikidata.

We will have a follow-up session, an edit-a-thon, where particpants will gain hands-on experience by contributing content on notable people, cultural topics, and historical facts related to Akwa Ibom.

Public Awareness: We will engage in one-on-one conversation with prospective participants. We will also engage the use of e-fliers on social media platforms like Whatsapp and Instagram.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes, Our participants are youths and all have access to internet enabled devices like tablets, smart phones, and laptops to enable continuity and participation through the project timeline.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

To ensure continuity and sustained participation after the event, we will create a dedicated WhatsApp group where participants can stay connected, ask questions, receive ongoing support, and share their progress and receive further event updates from the team.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The event will focus on bridging the awareness gap about Wikimedia projects, improving local content, and building a sustainable pipeline of young, active contributors.

- 10 points — For each new article created.

- 7 points — For each stub article created.

- 3 points — For every 1,000 bytes added to stub articles.

- 2 points — For each citation/reference added.

- 2 points — For each infobox added.

English Wikidata

- 5 points — For each new item created with at least 10 statements.

- 2 points — For each existing item edited with at least 5 new statements.

User:Favourdare123 Facilitator: He is an active contributor, with vast experience in contributing to Wikipedia and wikidata .Thesaleswiz He will be in charge of overseeing the whole activity during the project period.
