Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

Two days physical training :On Day one, participants will get a comprehensive introduction to Wikipedia and its sister projects like Wikimedia Commons, Wiktionary, and Wikisource. They will learn about the purpose and unique features of each platform and their roles in the global knowledge ecosystem. The session will also cover the basics of editing Wikipedia, including creating and modifying articles, and provide hands-on practice to help attendees apply these skills.

day 2: On the second day, the workshop will focus on Wikidata, explaining its role in the Wikimedia ecosystem and its connections to other projects. Participants will learn how to create and edit Wikidata items, including understanding its structure and using statements, properties, and qualifiers. The session will include practical exercises to provide hands-on experience with the platform.

Edit-a-thon contest: a contest will be held after the physical training in which the top editors will be rewarded with a prize to help commend their contribution.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I have informed the wikimedia Nigeria about my project proposal Below is the link

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_User_Group_Nigeria

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Creating Awareness: My co-facilitator and I will spearhead an awareness campaign by posting electronic flyers (e-fliers) on the social media platforms of the University of Benin’s faculty and departmental platform. This event aims to raise awareness about our upcoming event, particularly targeting individuals who are interested in learning more about the project. Our goal is to effectively communicate our objectives to both existing community members and potential new volunteers interested in contributing to Wikipedia. Additionally, we will create a dedicated group alongside these e-fliers to accommodate interested individual.

Through Social Media: Following our awareness campaign, we will utilize the WhatsApp group created earlier to maintain continuous communication with participants. This platform will serve as a space for ongoing engagement during and after the physical training. By actively participating in this group, members will stay informed and involved in the training process and subsequent Wikipedia related projects.

Through Email: To manage participant numbers and ensure we do not exceed our intended numbers, we will use email for formal communication. Once individuals register for the physical training, we will send official notifications to confirm their participation. This approach will help us keep track of attendees and maintain an organized process for the event.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify

Emmanuella643 (talk) 18:41, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Women make up 49% of all Wikipedia readers, yet only 19% of the biographies on Wikipedia are about women. This stark underrepresentation highlights a significant gender gap, calling for collective action to ensure inclusivity and equal representation. The goal of this project which is to bridge the gender gap will help promote visibility of notable Nigeria women on Wikipedia and ultimately contribute to the broader objectives of the global Art and Feminism Campaign.

thesaleswiz (talk) 20:512, 7 September 2024 (UTC) I strongly support this project as it will create awareness in the university of Benin and promote inclusivity for the feminine gender by capturing their input alongside their male counterparts in the art industry.
