This project aims to equip University of Uyo students with the skills and knowledge to contribute to Wikipedia, enhancing their digital literacy, research, and collaboration skills. Through workshops and hands-on training, students will learn to create and edit Wikipedia articles, promoting excellence in online information sharing.

Project Goal

1, To write Articles about Schools and hospitals in Akwa Ibom State.

2 To Write Biography about companiesand and organizations in Akwa ibom state

3. We will also work on articles that need citations.

4.To bring in new editors that will be contributing to wikimedia even after the event as well as sustaining and engaging and improving the skills of the already existed editors

5. Using the PetScan tool, I'll be able to search for stub articles or articles in Akwa Ibom State category that needs improvements

one virtual and physical training

And edithathon will be involved

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

It will be posted in the already existed uniuyo students whatsapp group through which information has been evenly communicated about wikimidia activities and events

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

There is an existing WhatsApp group for uniuyo students with active editors. This platform will be use as a communication channel to reach out to both previous and new editors and to also keep them for more information about any wikimidia events and activities in the future

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

Yes, participants have the equipment,they will be trained with the required skills on how to contribute.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

They will be taking part in the community programme and and subsequent training including virtually which will help equip them with other wikimedia skills and projects to participate and contribute in.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

There was an awareness session in August and a training in September for university students, where they gained basic skills in Wikimedia and Wikipedia editing. They learned to add citations and references to Wikipedia articles. Although it wasn't a competitive event, the students performed exceedingly well. This achievement will serve as encouragement, and with the competition and edithathon , it will further motivate them to participate more actively and will also encourage them to contribute more to Wikipedia.
