Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

Following the success of Wiki Loves Taraba 2024, there is a high demand by the participants to be exposed to other parts of Wikimedia projects, especially Wikipedia, as they are enthusiastic and ready to keep on contributing to the world’s largest repository of knowledge. Wikipedia Training for Taraba Wikimedians aimed to equip the newbie Wikimedians on how to perform editorial activities on Wikipedia. This project seeks to address the dearth of active participants contributing to Wikipedia and, more importantly, keep the Taraba Wikimedia community very active and punctual. Through organizing this event, the community will be armed with the forces they need to drive excellent and amazing contributions on Wikipedia.

Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

The project aims to have three sessions (one online session and two offline sessions) and an edit-a-thon.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

Wikimedia User Group Nigeria is being notified about the project. See [1]

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

A WhatsApp group will be used for keeping in touch with the participants.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify

User:Yahuzaishat, an indigene and resident of Taraba State, will take on the role of project lead. He is a graduate of the 2023/4 Organizer’s Lab Cohort. He had the privilege of leading the Wiki Loves Earth Taraba 2024 and facilitating Wikimedia Awareness at Pen Resource University and Wikimedia Awareness at Ummah College of Health Sciences and Technology.

User:Gwanki, is a seasoned Wikipedian with a track record of excellence in his contributions. He is an administrator of Hausa Wikipedia and has, over the years, established and trained many editors who are doing well in the movement. In this project, he will serve as the sole facilitator.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

The participants lack the know-how to edit Wikipedia. In order to support them, I, along with the other team member, will give them hands-on and first-class knowledge on basic editing while bearing content policies in mind.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

The WhatsApp group used during the event will be added to the "Wikimedia Taraba State Network" community to ensure that participants remain engaged with Wikipedia even after the project.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Taraba Wikimedians established during Wiki Loves Earth Taraba 2024 are in need of learning how to edit Wikipedia. This project will help the state become more active in all parts of Wikimedia activities.
