Comments on WMHU’s impact report from FDC staff[edit]

Thank you, colleagues at WMHU, for writing and posting this impact report about your experiences and learning as an organization this past year. We appreciate the effort you put into documentation so that we and others can understand your work and your reflections.

We understand that 2012 ended with an overwhelming number of planned activities, and that WMHU focused only on two in 2013 (WikiCamp and WLM). We also understand that the chapter has recently struggled with a low number of active members, and is working in a larger political context of growing restrictions on civil society.

This year WMHU volunteers resolved 3,000 error templates in 1,223 articles, created 100 new articles, and improved 100 existing articles. You managed a cooperation with the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and Library that led to an article writing contest, with 37 articles created and nine improved. You held an Article of the Year competition, and received 90 nominations from community members in this contest. We learned about many of the events and workshops WMHU hosted and participated in. We also appreciate learning about your cooperation with Nepsport, the sports newspaper, and your learning about why this area of work was a challenge. Thank you for sharing your observations about your training being overly detailed.

We also note the chapter’s focus on professionalization in hiring staff and renting office space this past year. We look forward to understanding how these resources enable the chapter to focus on impactful program work.

We appreciate that WMHU has been able to access support from partners; in-kind donations can lead to impactful partnerships in the long run, and help maximize Wikimedia movement dollars. We appreciate WMHU’s desire to spend conservatively; however, we also note that WMHU has ended its extended grant term with a significant underspend. Please see our questions below to ensure that the remaining grant funds are properly accounted for and returned to the WMF, as required by the grant agreement.

With thanks, and warm regards, KLove (WMF) (talk) 23:23, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Questions from FDC staff about WMHU’s grant[edit]

The FDC recommended a total of 14,845,000 HUF, and based on the report, we understand that 6,422,516 HUF of the 2013 annual plan grant has been spent. Would you please confirm that WMHU is currently holding and planning to return 8,422,484 HUF in Annual Plan Grant funds, or roughly 57% of the grant?

In the Impact Report’s Spending section, we note that only four quarters are accounted for. However, WMHU received a three-month extension until 31 March 2014, so there should be 5 quarters accounted for in this cumulative report. Please update the table to reflect the fifth quarter and confirm the total amount spent in all five quarters.

Please let us know if any of this is not clear; we’d like to resolve this with you soon.

Best regards, KLove (WMF) (talk) 23:24, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As the grant was extended into Q1/2014, we plan to return 8,422,484 HUF minus the amount spent in Q1/2014. All 2014 spending should be reported in details here: User:Vince (WMHU)/2014 finances of WMHU. Find Q1/2014 activities report (currently in Hungarian only) here: [1] (WMHU:Reports). I'll update the ipact report as soon as I receive all details necessary. --Vince (talk) 20:05, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
