Thank you for this report[edit]

Thank you for submitting this complete report on time. We did notice that you did not provide an answer to the question, “1. As required in the grant agreement, please report any deviations from your grant proposal here. Note that, among other things, any changes must be consistent with our WMF mission, must be for charitable purposes as defined in the grant agreement, and must otherwise comply with the grant agreement.” Is this because you have no changes to report, or because that information is included elsewhere in the proposal?

We look forward to reviewing the report in more detail in the coming months, and learning more about your accomplishments in the past year. Please monitor this page for questions and feedback about this report, and reach out to us at any time if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi Winifred, As it can be seen from the Spending table and the the detailed programs we mention along the report - WMIL keep inline with our original grant proposal. There are some changes in the costs of projects and administrations costs and we mentioned and explained on the relevant sections. If more clarification is needed, do not hesitate to ask. Thank you. --Itzike (talk) 07:52, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request for amendment[edit]

Hi Winifred, it appears we've made an error and did not include the FDC funds in table 2. Could we amend the table to fix this? Cheers! NLIGuy (talk) 13:01, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thank you for suggesting this and please go ahead, NLIGuy! Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 13:07, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comments on WMIL’s impact report from FDC staff[edit]

Thank you for submitting this report, colleagues at Wikimedia Israel! We enjoyed reading about the 2,000 hours volunteers contributed, and we appreciate that Wikimedia Israel sees its dedicated volunteers as a major strength and an accomplishment. We are eager to learn more about how Wikimedia Israel’s work is supporting those volunteers and what Wikimedia Israel’s role is in this accomplishment. We are glad to learn that Wikimedia Israel is increasing its focus on volunteer recruitment, and look forward to learning about its strategies. We loved the learning pattern you shared around long-term volunteer engagement with your key volunteers, and hope you share more as you continue to learn.

Thank you for sharing the use rates along with the number of images gained through WikiAir. 9.1% is an impressive rate of usage for a group of 1,441 photos, and we were inspired to learn that one of the photo’s as featured on the President’s greeting card for Rosh Hashanah. Congratulations on that accomplishment! In general, we are excited to see the results Wikimedia Israel is achieving in terms of generating content through focused initiatives that also engage its volunteer community. We note that Wikimedia Israel is identifying better ways to measure and understand the results of these programs, and so we’ll be excited to follow progress in the future as we know more.

Thank you for your insightful SWOT analysis. It is interesting to learn how you are assessing your strengths and challenges as an organization. For example, while you see monitoring and tracking results is important you also recognize that it takes a lot of time and organizational resources to do this well.

Congratulations also on the tenth anniversary of Hebrew Wikipedia, and your celebration. It is interesting to learn more about how Wikimedia Israel defines success. In the future, we would love to see some programs featured that are leading to impact in terms of online content and new editors. Learning about your organizational challenges was also very interesting, but in the future, we would like more insight into how Wikimedia Israel understands its programmatic challenges. We encourage Wikimedia Israel to reflect more on programmatic challenges in future reports. For events like Wikipedia Academy, we also hope to learn more about what outcomes of these events are leading toward your goals, beyond the number of participants.

We understand that the ED recruitment process was challenging and that budgeting was also a big challenge for Wikimedia ISrael in this first year of the FDC process. We are glad to know that you feel the transition has went so well and we can already see that strategies around budgeting have been adjusted. We hope this provides a solid foundation for future years of program work.

Best regards, Winifred Olliff (FDC Support Team) talk 23:20, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unanswered questions[edit]

A few questions in this report were not answered or were incomplete. Please consider adding this information to your report in order to complete it:

  • The question on growth addressed quarter to quarter growth, while we would be interested (in the context of this impact report) in learning about your year-to-year growth. For example, based on where you were one year ago, how has your organization grown throughout the funding period?
2013 was a year of transition for WMIL. The organizational growth took the form of strengthening our infrastructure. The chapter reinforced itself through the process of hiring EDs and through the serious reflection it underwent during the period of recruiting. Another aspect of the organizational growth is the progress in the development of the strategic partnership with the National Library.

For some programs, you did not address the question about whether you achieved your desired objectives and why or why not. It is useful for us to know how you understand your success for each program based on your objectives. Please consider adding this information for the following programs:

  • Wiki Loves Monuments
WMIL found WML to be a successful program since we easily recruited two new partners, the press found the contest appealing and it was widely reported, and the volunteers are enthusiastic about it.
  • GLAM
The partnership with The National Library is a very successful one, not only because of the variety of materials that were uploaded to the Commons and the enrichment of articles in various language, but due to the fact that the Library management realized the strategic importance of its relationship with WMIL.
