Hi Keilana,

Thanks for sharing your progress in this report! I'm accepting it today, and here is some feedback:

  • Congratulations on so many articles created by Loyolan attendees so far - wonderful to see that the content is sticking around :)
  • Thanks for the learning pattern about helping newbies create new articles, it is great! I can also see a useful future learning pattern based on what you've written in the "reflection" section...it seems like you're finding that repetition is more important than size, for impactful events, and that could be a useful finding to highlight for others in the movement as well at some point.
  • Do you have any numbers in terms of alpha tester workshop-leaders you've got? (I realize it may be too soon to say for sure, just curious to have an overall sense of scope/scale at this point in time).
  • In terms of the challenge around getting clarity within the kit - what do you think has been the biggest obstacle(s) in this? I'm wondering if it is simply taking more time/effort than anticipated and because you're also running the workshops there haven't been enough hours to focus on this? or if there have been setbacks with getting a designer to help you? or in gathering early feedback/testers to help you improve it? or due to the academic calendar? or because of something else entirely? Happy to help you think this challenge through further if/when this would be helpful, to see if we can remove any obstacles from your path in this regard! It seems like the focus for your next 3 months will be on scaling what's working beyond your own local group, and having a solid kit + outreach strategy in place for this feels key for hitting your measures of success, so let's give some thought to anything we can do to help support this going forward.
  • Thanks for linking to your alpha kit - good to see it on Commons :) In your final report, I hope you'll also include some more artifacts from your project to help inspire others following you - photos of workshops, links to lists of articles, survey outcomes from your participants, quotes from your kit testers, etc (and obviously the link to your beta kit...& we should talk about formats that would allow people to translate/adapt it more readily in beta or beyond!).
  • When you have time, please also go ahead and update your timeline page, w/ any adjustments to your milestones as needed for the second half of your project, as well as posting links to however you're sharing your monthly updates. In addition to link(s) to blog posts, perhaps Facebook or other places you're sharing outwardly about the workshops or kit progress with others interested in this topic? Alternately, you can always post a list of activities for each month directly in the month section on that page.

Hi Siko, thank you for your comments, and I apologize for the late response. I plan on creating several more learning patterns in the upcoming weeks, including ones about repetition, types of attendees, and settings for new editors. I will of course link them on my page when they're done. With regards to alpha testers, I have one for-sure yes and a whole lot of maybe's. I'm working now to get more yeses and, since the academic year is over, to find similar interest groups to reach out to at other universities.
The clarity challenge is due to a bunch of factors - the academic calendar plus running workshops at the same time made it difficult to do much in terms of design, and I was quite focused on getting the text right. I would like to talk to you more about an outreach plan, we can sort that out soon.
I'm planning some interesting blog posts with pictures of participants, article blurbs, more survey data, and lots of excellent quotes from the participants. They are all very quotable! :) This will all go in my final report as well. I'm thinking of using the translation interface for the beta test, then publishing working PDFs in whatever language, but I'm totally open to other ideas. Retention rate question[edit]

Hi Keilana! I don't want to overwhelm you with questions, but I wanted to check about your comment in midpoint outcomes that "the retention rate is much higher than other models." Are you looking at retention as the proportion of people that come back more than once (9/20), or are you looking at retention as the % of new editors who continue as an active monthly editor (usually defined as 5+ edits per month, but could be 1+ edit per month)? Just trying to figure out for my own reference :) Thanks - your project seems really great, and I'm excited to see what happens in the next phase of development!
