Not A Good Idea[edit]

While it seems like a nice idea on the surface, in reality, the sort of people who volunteer for this sort of thing tend to have controlling personalities. The only effective means of administration is approaching people who are good people and asking them to do it, which is probably not going to fly on Wikipedia. I don't think Wikpedia needs yet another layer of bureaucracy, which is what this would inevitably lead to. If we need more admins, we can get more admins. Agreed. Blocking is one of the two most contentious tools that an admin can use, we need more admins and we need more admins who are willing to deal with trolls and incivility. But the solution is to appoint more admins, and to back those who deal with harassment, not to create a new group of "not quite admins". WereSpielChequers (talk) 11:01, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Grants to improve your project[edit]

Greetings! The Project Grants program is currently accepting proposals for funding. The deadline for draft submissions is tommorrow. If you have ideas for software, offline outreach, research, online community organizing, or other projects that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers, start your proposal today! Please encourage others who have great ideas to apply as well. Support is available if you want help turning your idea into a grant request.

The next open call for Project Grants will be in October 2016. You can also consider applying for a Rapid Grant, if your project does not require a large amount of funding, as applications can be submitted anytime. Feel free to ping me if you need help getting your proposal started. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 22:49, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
