Developing the idea[edit]

@Jdbepono: Hi there, I wanted to check in and see if you are interested in developing this idea further and even turning it into a grant proposal. Better publicity around Wikimedia projects is definitely needed and we'd like to see more details about the idea. If not, do you have others in mind who may want to work on this or further develop the idea before the deadline on March 31? Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 21:20, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tertiary Source[edit]

Wikipedia is a general interest encyclopaedia, a tertiary source written from secondary and sometimes primary sources. Universities were teaching students to go beyond the encyclopaedias long before Wikipedia came on the scene, and will probably be doing so after we've gone. It would be nice if they only said "you are now at university, we expect you to go beyond general interest encyclopaedias such as Wikipedia and xxxxx". But as long as we are aiming to be a general interest encylopaedia we should get used to the idea that people studying a subject at degree level need to be told to go beyond the encyclopaedias.
