Grants talk:IdeaLab/New and better ways to edit Watchlists

Grant?[edit]

I'm not sure why this needs to be a grant. This sounds like something to file a feature request on Bugzilla for, or start an mw:RfC for. PiRSquared17 (talk) 19:13, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, perhaps someone offer to will do it for free; that could be said of any of these ideas. My experience with RFCs is that sometimes everyone agrees that an idea for a technical change is a good one. Period. Nothing happens, unless someone with technical expertise happens to take an interest in it.
However, something that would reduce processing load on the servers (by having everyone have smaller watchlists) and save time for the most active Wikipedians might be something worth paying someone to do (not me, my coding skills are out of date), so that it won't sit on the back burner for years until a volunteer feels like taking it on. If nothing else, this discussion might help decide if this is even needed or wanted, or if certain aspects aren't practical, etc. If the committee decides that this is an inappropriate idea, or if someone decides to take it on in their free time, this can always be deleted. It's just the IdeaLab, not a grant proposal at this point (right?) Anne Delong (talk) 19:46, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
