Communities with high rates of images in use[edit]

  • WLE 2015 in Austria had 22% images in use. Raimund, can you offer any suggestions, advice or strategies that other groups can use to increase the number of contest photos in use?
  • WLM 2014 in Estonia had 35% images in use. Adeliine WLM in Estonia has continued to have strong outcomes, even if fewer people participate. Is there anything your team has done to achieve high rates of quality images and images in use?
  • WLM 2013 in Switzerland had 39% images in use.
  • WLE 2015 in Russia had 9% in use. Dmitri, can you or someone from your team share what strategies you used to get images integrated into wiki pages?
  • WLE 2015 in Thailand had 14% in use. Taweetham, do you have any suggestions for how to get contest images added to wiki projects?

There are many other communities who have integrated a large portion of images from photo contests into Wiki project pages. Please help add to this learning pattern by sharing the strategies, tools, programs or other advice for communities who are interested in this goal. Tools to incorporate images into articles[edit]

  • For Wiki Loves Monuments we have Erfgoedbot which creates a list of unused images. The adding itself is manual, because there must be a visual human check to prevent problems. Romaine (talk) 22:07, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@KHarold (WMF): The first step to have Erfgoedbot run in a country is to have lists of monuments on Wikipedia (in template format), the second step is to file a bug on Phabricator to add the lists to the monuments database, when added, the bot can create pages with unused images. These lists contain the images of monuments which do not have a photo yet in the monument lists. I think I can and likely will file requests to add certain coutnries to the monument database.   • Jean-Frédéric, Effeietsanders mentioned that you may know of or work with tools that catagorize images so that they can ported to WikiData. I may have that completely wrong, but I get the idea from your user page that you know of strategies or tools to efficiently catagorize images so that they are more likely to be used on other projects. Work with communities to write articles[edit]

Per Romaine's earlier comment, I added this section. @Harej: I added a quote from your report on Summer of Monuments last year. I'm not sure I have anything more useful to add; it is fairly serendipitous that our photography contest was in a subject area that also happened to have a highly active and vibrant WikiProject with well established workflows. For those doing work on the English Wikipedia there is now a WikiProject Directory that lists every WikiProjects and provides activity levels for each. harej (talk) 03:22, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
