A few questions about this report[edit]

Thanks for submitting the report:

  • We did in fact receive documentation of your expenditures, so you may change the "no" to a "yes" in this section of your report.
  • In the financial reporting section, would you also provide us with a summary of any revenue generated from conference fees, food, etc.?
  • While I noticed that you linked to the conference wiki near the beginning of this report, would you be able to point us to the location of the self-documentation on wiki that you mentioned in the Measures of Success section of the report? The conference wiki itself seems mostly focused on planning the event.
  • Thanks for sharing your Lessons Learned with the community: it seems like this event was well thought-out. In "Lessons Learned" you mention that an experienced facilitator is important but I couldn't locate a description of the facilitator's role or how use of a facilitator was successful or unsuccessful. Do you think you could flesh this statement out with a few details?

Thanks, Wolliff (talk) 23:00, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Winifred,
I answered your questions. I'm not sure what sort of detail you want on facilitation. The facilitator's role is to facilitate the meeting. I tried to add a sentence to clarify the value, but I'm not sure what level of detail you're looking for.

Thanks for responding to our questions.

Regarding the role of the facilitator, I am simply asking for a little clarity (if it is available) around exactly what went well or did not go well about the facilitator's role, so that anyone reading this report might gain a little more insight from your lessons learned. I understand that it seems obvious that the role of the facilitator is to "facilitate" the event, but depending on the structure of the event, how a facilitator performs this role can indeed vary greatly. I think the statement you added does help to clarify the facilitator's role, so thank you for that. It would be nice if you could also share with the community specifically what did or did not work about the facilitation in this context. While this information is not necessarily critical to WMF, it may be useful to others organizing similar events. Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 19:20, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Return of unused funds[edit]

Hello, Eugene:

Thank you for providing us with a statement of your revenue. After looking at the financial information posted here and your original grant requests, it seems there are still funds due Wikimedia Foundation. According to your original request,

The $1,250 we are requesting from the Wikimedia Foundation will cover our shortfall if we get our hoped-for 100 participants, and it will cover our fixed costs if we do not. We will return any money we do not spend.

It seems you approximately met your goal for conference revenue (US$ 2,295), and the only expenses here total US$ 2,546.09. Therefore, it appears you spent US$ 251.09 out of the US$ 1250 provided. The total due WMF is therefore US$ 998.91, unless I am missing some critical piece of information.

We noticed that you did not answer this question: Will you be returning unused funds to the Wikimedia Foundation?

It certainly seems applicable in this case. Would you please answer this question in your report and also clarify the total amount of unused funds?

Thank you, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 19:15, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The grantee has confirmed they will be returning the underspend to WMF; we will update this page and the report's status once it is received. Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 16:18, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
