[edit]

I read the whole report and think it is a good one - both in terms of describing this project and as a basis for any follow-ups (in Skopje or elsewhere). Thanks! -- Daniel Mietchen (talk) 08:32, 23 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I really believe that this report is one of the better ones. It's thorough yet precise. It also has one thing many of our projects are unfortunately missing - an idea and the will to keep going and developing after the report is accepted. There is an inherent will to share here, which is one of our core values. --Dimi z (talk) 23:32, 25 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Report accepted

[edit]

Thank you for this complete and thoughtful report. It is accepted!

  1. We appreciated your feedback about the difficulties of the trademark process and would like to do a better job of integrating information about the process into the grants proposal process, especially for grantees who are not chapters and may not be familiar with the process.
  2. We appreciated that you openly shared some of your challenges with the project and were able to overcome them.
  3. We were impressed with the care and attention you devoted to details like linking your content on Wikipedia using Latin names and ensuring that the QR codes remain functional.
  4. Congratulations on securing your external funding from a generous Wikipedian donor and negotiating with your vendor to reduce the overall cost of printing.
  5. It's exciting that your project generated such positive media attention and also interest from other GLAM institutions in the region.

We are very pleased to learn that your project was so successful, and will point others to this report as an example of a successful project and a good report. Please feel free to keep in touch and provide us with updates at any time.

Best regards, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 21:56, 3 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dear Winifred,
I am very happy to know that our project report has been positively evaluated and approved, despite our difficulties. On the behalf of my colleagues Venislava and Katerina from the Zoo, many thanks to the Wikimedia Foundation for believing in our project idea and the support.
I am travelling to Poland in October and will happen to be in Warsaw during the period of the organized there OpenGLAM Conference (http://openglam2013.pl). I have contacted the organizer Tomasz Ganicz, and have submitted a summary for a talk on our Bulgarian GLAM projects - the one with the National Archives, and the one with the Zoo. It's great that I'll be able to announce our project report have been accepted, and will further contribute to the dissemination of our project results and the WMF support.
I hope that this project will also be in future a helpful prerequisite for other similar GLAM projects from other countries, as well as other projects we, Bulgarian Wikimedians, may apply for in front of the WMF.
Best regards, Vassia / Spiritia 11:14, 6 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Curious

[edit]

I have to say that the report is a bit bizarre, as it's often written from the perspective of the zoo, for instance "Stabilize infrastructure: The project had a rather positive impact on the Sofia Zoo's infrastructure"; in general, it's quite clear that the zoo took from us much more than it gave. However, the WMF funds used were limited, after all: the biggest resource was the enthusiasm (+ own finances) of the volunteers and this probably contributed to the positive media impact. So in the end I guess all involved parties can be satisfied. Congratulations to the volunteers for their dedication and to those who approved the grant for spotting the opportunity in this non-standard request. --Nemo 11:15, 1 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I would agree. The concern that the zoo receives more than it gives was present in the grant discussions before approval as well. Nevertheless, this was the first grant in Bulgaria, and as you say, did have positive results for all sides, all told. As described in the report, volunteer availability was not as great as was hoped, and the main organizer had to undertake more work personally than she had anticipated. Here's hoping this is the seed for more activity in Bulgaria. :) Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 00:36, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
