Grants talk:PEG/WM HK/Online Shop

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

You are asking for 4600 USD to set up, run and stock a shop that you hope will have a monthly turnover of 100 USD. That has to be a mistake. With those numbers, you would be making a massive loss, yet you say it is supposed to be an income stream. Please correct the numbers. --Tango 14:27, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now corrected and thanks a lot.--Tsugiko 15:23, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's even worse... you've just reduced your expected turnover by a factor of 6. --Tango 02:07, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see your point, and I think 300 USD turnover per year can let the project breakeven, at least. Now corrected.--Tsugiko 15:19, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not even remotely close to breakeven. You're asking for 230 USD for a year's web hosting and 700 USD for stock (ignoring your other expenses). That means you are buying about 2.5 years worth of stock up front, which is reckless, and, even if web hosting if your only overhead (which it won't be), you need a profit margin of 77%, which is unrealistic. You need to find somebody that can do arithmetic before you even think about trading... --Tango 19:07, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
