I had a lengthy discussion with project lead and team who is currently one of the most active Wikipedian editors in Nigeria. The discussion revolves around 1. How to properly document notable people and subject across Africa. 2. To be able to improve articles to B and A grades 3. To train to have more active Wikipedia editors in Africa. Therefore, One of the areas that are still lagging behind is the African legislators. The project would not only address the content gaps but also increase the editing skills of both the new and existing editors on Wikimedia Foundation projects. Therefore, as part of the team for this project, I fully endorse the project's sustainability and vision. Ibjaja055 (talk) 13:01, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

This project, African Legislators in Red, is very important for the African communities generally because our legislators are very much not sufficiently represented on Wikimedia Projects, especially on Wikipedia. While we might be focusing on Nigeria in this edition, other communities across Africa are allowed to participate. The main goal of this project, to cover African legislators to a large extent, stems from the issues we have figured out regarding the representation of our legislators. How are we going to achieve this? Intensive training sessions would be held and participants would equip themselves with everything they need to know before venturing into creating articles. This is important because, while we want to cover a very large extent of our legislators, we also want quality articles that are carefully written. This initiative is vital for addressing the underrepresentation of African legislators on Wikimedia projects, filling a significant knowledge gap and promoting inclusivity. The strategies of community engagement, and targeted content creation are well-developed and will yield impactful results, especially with outreach to underrepresented groups like female legislators. The proposal also builds on past "in red" initiatives, focusing on research and innovation by bringing attention to systemic bias in the political sphere. It aligns with Wikimedia's Movement Strategy, particularly around knowledge equity and closing content gaps, and demonstrates coherence between its objectives, strategies, budget, and metrics, ensuring tangible outcomes for Wikimedia projects and the wider community. --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 14:24, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

This project seeks to address content gaps concerning African legislators, with a particular emphasis on female legislators. This initiative is designed to enhance the representation and visibility of these individuals within our digital resources, we aim to promote a more balanced understanding of Africa and by so doing, counter a systemic bias in Africa. I look forward to the positive outcomes this program will yield. Best, Reading Beans (talk) 07:10, 3 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
