PROJECT GOALS

The project aims to promote Nigerian legends and heroes on Wikimedia platforms, addressing content gaps and celebrating their contributions and significances. It will recruit and train both existing and new editors, promote awareness in local languages, and provide training in Wikimedia Projects. The short-term impact includes improving articles related to Nigerian Legends and Heroes. Long-term goals involve establishing an annual campaign and utilizing collaboration and WIR across to retain Wikimedia editors. The project has garnered endorsement and support, emphasizing its measurable impact and commitment to inclusivity in representing Nigerian history and culture.

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY; PROMOTING NIGERIAN HEROES ON WIKIMEDIA

This project aims to recruit and train new editors across the Country and youth to enhance content related to these figures. The inclusive approach includes sessions and training on articles translations and editing, ensuring accessibility and diversity. With collaborative efforts and support, I'm confident this initiative will celebrate the diverse voices that have shaped Nigerian history.

IMPACT AND SUSTAINABILITY

The project aims to increase the visibility of Nigerian Legends and Heroes, with a specific focus on Nigerian Figures. It seeks to achieve future impacts through collaborations among editors across the Country, retention of editors, and by targeting underrepresented categories to enhance sustainability. Present impacts include laying the groundwork for future endeavors, increasing visibility of Nigerian figures on Wikimedia platforms, training and recruiting new editors, and building a community essential for sustained engagement and impact within the Wikimedia Movement.

• There is a mismatch between the scope of the project interms of intended impact, the strategies used and the requested resources. There’s generally a lot happening and unclear why and what is the most useful component to focus on given the indicated gap they want to focus on.
• Additionally, it would have been useful to understand from a data perspective the nature of the knowledge especially seeing that they are targeting Wikipedia. Also, developing a list that speaks to the specific content gaps you are seeking to contribute to, would be useful.
• Once there is more clarity in the project, you can work with the available mini-grants program supported by the Wikimedia Nigeria User Group.
