Hello @JChen (WMF)
Thank you very much for the thoughtful feedback and questions from the ESEAP Regional Funds Committee, Wikimedia Indonesia, and the ESEAP Programme Officer. We sincerely appreciate the time and attention given to reviewing our proposal, and we are grateful for the constructive insights and support.
1. Yes, we are very willing to share the outcomes of this project with the broader Wikimedia community. Between 2024 and 2025, I have written four articles on the Wikimedia Diff blog under the username Astari28, highlighting our community’s efforts and contributions across different initiatives. In addition, one of our team members presented the achievements of the WikiMelayu project during the ESEAP Conference 2024, in a session titled “WikiMelayu: Inheriting the Malay Audio Visual Heritage of North Sumatra.”
Building on these experiences, we are committed to publishing a reflective report and lessons learned from this project in the form of a Diff blog post. We are also open and enthusiastic about sharing our experience through Let’s Connect sessions or any relevant Wikimedia community events in the future.
2. We plan to design Wikibook content based on participants’ interests and writing abilities, allowing them to choose between fiction and non-fiction formats. This flexibility aims to ensure that contributors feel more confident and comfortable in their initial contributions to Wikibooks. By starting with their areas of interest, we hope to create a positive and empowering first experience within Wikimedia projects. Some examples of Wikibooks we have completed include:
https://id.wikibooks.org/wiki/Pengenalan_Sumber_Pembelajaran_Terbuka
https://id.wikibooks.org/wiki/Gastronomi_Nusantara
https://id.wikibooks.org/wiki/Belajar_di_Rumah:_Panduan_Pendidikan_Keluarga_(Seri_PAUD)
In addition, here are contributions from participants whom we directly supported and facilitated in previous activities:
https://id.wikibooks.org/wiki/Wastra_Indonesia/Sarung_Samarinda
https://id.wikibooks.org/wiki/Dasar-Dasar_Sumber_Pembelajaran_Terbuka
To assess the quality of contributions, especially in non-fiction works, we apply several indicators: content clarity, structural completeness, alignment with Wikimedia policies, consistency in the use of sources and references, and practical usefulness for general readers. As an educator and book editor with experience in publishing educational books and children’s stories, I am committed to guiding contributors not only in the writing process but also in developing quality, educationally relevant content that aligns with the spirit of open knowledge.
3. Based on our experience, several Wikibooks we have developed have been reused as reference materials in community meetings. For example, “Pengenalan Sumber Pembelajaran Terbuka” and “Dasar-Dasar Sumber Pembelajaran Terbuka” were used as references in Wikibook writing training for the OER Adicita 3.0 project in 2025.
To track their usage, we currently do not use any special tools other than monitoring participant contributions through the Outreach Dashboard. Additionally, we manually check contributor usernames on Wikimedia Commons. Many images uploaded to Wikimedia Commons have been reused for online news articles, personal blogs, and tourism content. Wikimedia Commons thus represents another form of contribution within Wikimedia beyond the Wikibooks we develop. However, if there are recommended tools for better tracking the usage and impact of our work, we are very open and eager to adopt them. Astari28 (talk) 01:44, 9 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
