Add topicWikipedia Awareness and Trainings in Borno State
Why the proposal is important to the community and why you think strategies chosen will achieve the results that are expected.
[edit]This project is important to Borno Community because it is the first of its kind to create awareness and trainings about Wikimedia projects in the state. And the offline and online strategies will be very effective because of the flexibility of online trainings and impacts of the offline training. Tesleemah (talk) 09:47, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
Partnership and Strategies
[edit]Advancing Wikipedia objectives is a welcome action from individuals, groups and organizations. However, such individuals or groups need to demonstrate a level of experience over time to be able to execute ideas. Preliminary scrutiny from the community indicates that the user names (partners) associated with this proposal are not aware of this proposal and are more like a smokescreen in an attempt to get the proposal over the line.
Furthermore, the strategies seem incoherent putting into consideration the reality (insecurity) and not being a resident of the proposed State for execution. Emmanueledit (talk) 05:43, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for the observation. However, it appears you didn't consult wide to arrive at this conclusion.Testimonial from User:Bukky658, clearly shows otherwise. The online training would cater for issues bothering on security, and a WhatsApp group is planned to created for participants during and after the project for prompt informationand continuous engagement. The project is relevant to recruiting more volunteer editors from a relatively unknown region of contributors. Atibrarian (talk) 20:33, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for your contributions, however, all the allegations are not true. All the partners are duly informed. You can reach out to Bukky658 [1] Or Gwanki [2]. On the issue of experience,you can check my global contributions here Ibjaja055
- Lastly, the project was proposed to create awareness in Borno State being the second largest in Nigeria and no Wikimedia project has been carried out in the state. This lack of awareness has resulted to low visibility of Borno state on Wikimedia projects. Hence, the project is not a smokescreen but an eye opener that will create Wikimedia Community in the second largest state in Nigeria. If you have any other suggestions or observations. Pls feel free to contribute. Thank you Ibjaja055 (talk) 06:01, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
You can also check Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, they have also been duly informed and here Ibjaja055 (talk) 06:31, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you Emmanueledit for your preliminary investigations. However, I'll like to inform you that I was duly notified and informed about this proposal by Ibjaja055, and a notification was also sent to the community both via the community notification page and WhatsApp messaging platforms. I'll suggest mentioning the team members' names directly on the discussion page next time, so they can easily respond to questions about any proposal of concern. I can also attest that the grantee has many contributions across different wikis as against yours Emmanueledit https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth?target=Emmanueledit. This indicates that he is not only experienced in carrying out this project but has the support of experienced team members to work with. More so, this project has the potential to correct so much misinformation and fake news about the project scope (Borno) which has lingered for so long if approved.
Thank you Bukky658 (talk) 07:06, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

[edit]- This is a very good way to help create awareness of notable people, cultures and places in Borno State, North East of Nigeria. I have gone on trips twice to Borno State and was excited about their ways of living despite the destructions due to insurgency. The place is large with numerous notability which needs to be aware, especially the El-Kanemi Empires and much more. This will be a very great project. I strongly endorsed it.

Coherent Objectives and outreach to underrepresented Groups
[edit]The objective of the project is to create awareness and trainings to the people of Borno state. The project's power lies in the use of people that are already part of an intellectual writing community. It will be very easy to orientate them on how to contribute to Wikimedia Projects and it will yield positive outcome.
Also, the project is targeting Borno State, a state that has almost gone to extinction due to misinformation and fake news. If the proposal is accepted, It will go a long way to change the narrative of the people and history of the state. Taoheedah (talk) 05:36, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Knowledge Gap's contribution to Wikipedia
[edit]- Borno State's history and facts are at the brink of annihilation because of the various misinformation about the state. According to the proposal, history, languages, ethnics and various heritage places of Borno will be documented. It is a great benchmark to the resuscitation of Borno state heritages.
Also, the project's plan recruit new editors and improve the existing ones, this is a good strategy to equip the people of Borno state with the rudiment skills needed for the contributions to Wikimedia Projects. I hereby grant this proposal a strong support. Please feel free to contact me via my talk page, I am willing to be a volunteer.

Project's Sustainability
[edit]Many projects lack sustainability, I am very impressed with the way the project will create Borno Wikimedia Editors. The strategy is a unique one . The creation of this group will allow the project to withstand test of time. I am very happy to see this in my region and I will be willing to Support as a volunteer feel free to contact me via my talk page.

- This proposal is important to the Borno community, because it will ultimately help change the narrative of misinformation, disinformation, and fake news about the project scope (Borno) which has lingered for so long if approved.
- The strategies, activities, and the levels of community engagement proposed is well developed to educate, mentor and sharpen the online literacy and research skills of the youths within Borno state to enable them contribute local contents which will be in form of the history, culture, tradition, schools, cuisine, tourist's areas, tribes, languages and images about Borno State on Wikipedia.
- the proposal focuses on interesting research which identified two key problems;
- Little Content of Borno State on Wikipedia; Borno State is the second biggest state in Nigeria with a landmass of 70,898, and also has one of the oldest empires in West Africa; the Borno Empire. However, there exists little information of Borno State on the English Wikipedia.
- Lack of Wikimedia Community in Borno; There has never been any Trainings or Awareness that can train people and notify them about the projects of the Wikimedia Foundation and how they can contribute to it. Hence this trainings and awareness is going to establish a community of Wikipedia editors in Borno State.
- This project if approved will improve Wikipedia contents about people, places, organisations within Borno State and promote the Wikimedia 2030 Movement Strategy recommendations such as;
- Increasing the sustainability the movement
- Investing in skills development
- Improving user experience
- Managing internal knowledge
- Providing for safety and inclusion
- Identify topics of impact
- Innovating in free Knowledge

Not funded
[edit]Dear Ibjaja055, thanks for submitting your Rapid Fund request. We appreciate your interest in contributing to the mission of the Wikimedia Movement. After a thorough review of your application, we have decided to not fund your Rapid Fund request.
- While we understand the lack of awareness about Wikimedia projects in Borno state, we don't think that facilitators' long-distance travel is a sustainable approach. We think that similar activities should be organized by experienced Wikimedians located in the same region.
- We don't think that the applicant has accounted for risks related to the project.
Thanks again for your work for the movement. Wishing you all the best. DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 07:50, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
