Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Enhance the ProveIt gadget, part 3 (ID: 23036940)
Add topic1. As someone who mostly likes to repair or add sources on wikipedia, and has done a huge deal of stub sorting, I have used this tool for years. This tool is indispensable for quickly and efficiently managing the variety very complex reference templates. One of the most important features of any wiki article is the quality of the sourcing. This tool helps to make sure citations meet or exceed wikipedia standards, and are easily readable by both humans and machines. Moreover, it allows experienced wikipedians to quickly improve citations from contributors who may only provide a link or may not include an archive link to prevent link rot. Sophovirus has made repeated upgrades to the tool in previous grants, has outlined a list of features they expect to address in this current grant, and solicited user input.
2. I think the value for money is very good, 3 months of dedicated programmer time to do a variety of updates the tool.
3. Sophovirus has done several other grants for ProveIt, and delivered the promised features each time.
4. The tool improves wikipedia's overall citation quality, which is key to the mission of providing a high quality, free encyclopedia
5. Yes very coherent, I think increased usage of the tool would greatly improve citation quality.

[edit]I have used ProveIt for years, and have found it is an awesome citation tool. I'd like to see it continue and be developed further! I've made over 70,000 edits on Wikipedia, and have used ProveIt for thousands of those edits. Firsfron (talk) 03:19, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
Endorsement
[edit]ProveIt is a valuable editing tool which makes it much easier to generate citations, and therefore makes it more likely that citations will be done properly. I wholeheartedly endorse Sophivorus’s application for a grant to continue improving ProveIt.—Quick and Dirty User Account (talk) 07:16, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
Funded
[edit]Hello Sophivorus, thank you for submitting your Rapid Fund grant request. After reviewing your proposal, we are pleased to inform you that it has been approved for funding in the amount of 5,000 USD. We made this decision with a few comments and recommendations:
- We appreciate your significant contributions to the development and maintenance of the ProveIt gadget. The detailed task list you’ve outlined is impressive, and we recognize the importance of this tool and citation workflows for our contributors.
- While we consider this a distinct project, please note that Rapid Fund requests that depend on multiple or continuous proposals for long-term maintenance or development goals are generally ineligible for funding.
- As a recommendation (not a requirement), we encourage you to consider using Codex instead of Vue for future development.
Thank you again for your valuable contributions to the Movement. DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:20, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
