Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/How to Wikify a Conference (ID: 22969643)

[edit]- I endorse and support this application. Having a toolkit would have been invaluable to me for my previous outreach work at conferences and with conference attendees. Going forward I would love to have this resource available to me and my New Zealand based as well as international colleagues to help improve on the engagement work we undertake. I believe having the experienced leaders of this project attend three different conferences is a great way to obtain useful guidance on the best methods to use to optimise such outreach.--Ambrosia10 (talk) 18:43, 7 March 2025 (UTC)

- I strongly endorse this proposal. I have spoken to several Australian editors who are keen to use the Guide produced by this project to Wikify conferences here. The depth of experience of the team and the variety shown in the size and subject area of the three conferences they have selected to attend and Wikify mean that a worthwhile resource will be produced that Wikimedians across the world will find easy to follow. Conferences are great places to spread the Wikimedia message, build relationships and gather and verify data about and photographs of the speakers and participants involved. The Guide produced will show us how.

[edit]I think this is a great idea, and the guide created would be really useful for others to use at conferences (without reinventing the wheel). David Nind (talk) 01:13, 11 March 2025 (UTC)

[edit]- This is a well-planned proposal with very needed learning goals. There is a huge potential for the movement by becoming better at covering events. I particularly like the three different sizes and am curious about specific attention to detail those require from the Wikimedians. --♥Ainali talkcontributions 06:16, 11 March 2025 (UTC)

1) If you require a top-up of Wikimedia swag that you plan to offer at the conferences, you can also request for them here - Grants:Project/Rapid/Requesting swag. Do include lead-time for the delivery if you are using this approach.
2) Could you also add your toolkit to the resource page (or any other page that is more appropriate) ? This is so that the wider community can also learn and access the resource more readily. JChen (WMF) (talk) 05:40, 20 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Jacqueline
- 1) Thank you for your excellent suggestions. I had neglected to consider swag but that is a great idea. We have some WANZ stickers but it would be nice to have something with the more widely recognised logo on it. I will work with Mike to figure out numbers and either come back to you with an adjusted budget for this proposal, or confirm that we are using the Requesting swag approach.
- 2) Yes we will be looking to make the toolkit as widely available as possible, so we will add to that Resource page on the WANZ website, but also we will be promoting it in the community, via GLAM groups, Events groups, relevant community meetings and so on (e.g. it could be added to the https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Resources page). DrThneed (talk) 06:21, 20 March 2025 (UTC)
- @JChen (WMF) Just coming back to say we will do a small SWAG request separately if the grant is approved. We would like to try the process out so we can tell other people about it! (we have some swag already for our first event, and there should be plenty of time before the others). DrThneed (talk) 04:29, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
