Follow-up questions on your application

[edit]

Hello @Plantaest

Thank you for your application. Your application is being reviewed by the ESEAP Regional Funds Committee, Programme Officer. Here are some questions that we require more information.

There may also be more questions added once the Product and Technology complete their review.

Thank you for taking a moment to respond.

Regards, Jacqueline

1) We recommend adding the number of Vietnamese website citation being configured correctly through this project (n=80) as an additional metric. We will be returning the application back to you to make the edits. Please remember to re-submit the application once the addition has been made via Fluxx. This will allow us to move the application forward in the review process.

2) There is one interesting comment on your community board: suppose a website has this interface this year, next year it upgrades and changes to a different layout and interface, will that affect the configuration above, or will it have to be reconfigured? Your answer was 'Usually have to rewrite because the website structure may be different.

To ensure this project still beneficial in the long run: can you teach some volunteers on how to configure vietnamese website citation? Either through online, offline, or even written guidelines in Vietnames Wikipedia Page will be appreciated and can sustain your invention in the long run.

3) How did you choose these 80 websites? JChen (WMF) (talk) 03:27, 26 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

@JChen (WMF): Hello Jacqueline,
It’s a pleasure to meet you again in this grant application. Below are my responses to the questions:
Question 1
I have followed your suggestion. I believe this is a great idea to evaluate the effectiveness of this project.
Question 2
This is a long-term project that I plan to pursue, and this grant serves as the initial step. After completing this grant, I will write a detailed guide on how to implement the project, which can be hosted on the main page of the project on Vietnamese Wikipedia. This way, those interested can continue my work in the future.
Although I understand that this question may come from a Committee member, I would like to add a personal note to Jacqueline. Vietnamese Wikipedia, while being a relatively large wiki with high traffic in Vietnam, constantly faces a shortage of contributors addressing technical issues. At times, certain software bugs may persist for months or even years without anyone in the community able to fix them, affecting both user experience and operational efficiency. For example, the issue that this project aims to address has existed for four years.
Because of this, some members and I have formed a group called Viettech Initiative to provide effective technical support for Vietnamese Wikipedia and even other wikis. We hope to secure stable financial support through Meta’s General Support Fund, ensuring the group’s continued operation and sustainability. I will reach out to the Programme Officer soon to learn more and hopefully secure General Support Fund approval for our group. I look forward to your support—thank you!
Question 3
According to my proposed plan, this project will have two phases. The first phase, lasting 10 days, focuses on researching technical solutions. The second phase, lasting 80 days, involves writing configurations.
During the second phase, I plan to complete one configuration per day (one working session). The configuration process includes several tasks: analyzing website structures, writing configuration scripts, testing, writing test cases, and documenting results. Given these steps, I believe this pace is reasonable, balancing work quality and cost efficiency. Therefore, I set the target of configuring 80 websites for this project.
The selected websites are well-known Vietnamese newspapers and magazines with high traffic, recommended by experienced long-term editors in our community.

@JChen (WMF): Hello Jacqueline, thank you for your support over the past time.
I have completed the required actions on Fluxx as requested in the email. I also added a note regarding the correction of the Grant End Date — it should be "31 July 2025" instead of "31 August 2025", as this project is planned to run for only 3 months (not including the one-month reporting period afterward).
I hope this won't cause any major issues in the final steps of the approval process.
