I strongly support an initiative aligned with the Wiki for Minorities approach for implementation in Sub-Saharan Africa. The project “Introduction wiki à l’Association des Amis d’Atteints d’Albinisme à Antsiranana (3A)” demonstrates that targeted Wikimedia initiatives focused on underrepresented and vulnerable minority groups can be successfully implemented through the Wikimedia Community Fund (Rapid Fund) and generate meaningful social and educational impact.

This experience shows that empowering minority communities to contribute knowledge about their own realities—through training, capacity building, and culturally relevant content creation—strengthens both community engagement and content diversity across Wikimedia projects. A comparable initiative was also carried out in Swahili in 2025, confirming that this model is not only effective but highly replicable across different linguistic and cultural contexts.

The challenges faced by minority communities in Sub-Saharan Africa—such as limited digital representation, structural discrimination, and low visibility in open knowledge platforms—are broadly similar across countries in the region. For this reason, the proposed initiative has strong potential for scalability and adaptation in other Sub-Saharan African contexts, particularly where local languages and marginalized identities remain underrepresented online.

Given the proven precedent, the availability of established methodologies, and the shared regional challenges, this proposal represents a feasible, impactful, and strategically aligned opportunity to advance Wikimedia’s mission of knowledge equity in Sub-Saharan Africa.
