I intend to expand my contributions to Wikipedia. Some years ago, I submitted content to the article on the concept of “definition,” but it was later removed. I continue to believe that the current formulation of this concept does not adequately cover certain fundamental aspects—for example, that a definition depends upon the intention and can serve as a probability intensifier for the intended or observed definiendum.
My more recent focus has been on the topic of “sliding” (related to motion). I observed that the Wikipedia article does not address cases where all bodies involved are moving at different velocities. My proposal is to explain the kinematics of such cases and to present their practical applications in fields such as manufacturing technology and tribology.
This work builds directly on the research I completed for my PhD in 1997. As a first step, I have already contributed an animation to the article Sliding (motion). Sead Spuzic (talk) 05:12, 3 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Question 1
My Experience:
I am new to editing Wikipedia. I have substantial knowledge of my topic (kinematics/physics) from my own studies and work at universities, but I am still learning how to apply Wikipedia's rules. These include using a neutral point of view, citing reliable sources to back up facts, and establishing why a topic is important enough for an article. I have been reading Wikipedia for years and am now taking the first steps to become a consistent contributor.
Learning from Past Experience:
Yes, it's true that some of my past edits were removed. I understand this happened because I didn't use enough published sources to support my points, or because the content was perceived as presenting my own ideas rather than summarizing published expert knowledge. I am committed to ensuring all content in this project is firmly based on verifiable, published sources.
On-Wiki Skills and Support Required:
To make this project successful, I anticipate needing help such as:
Editing Help: I need to learn the technical aspects of editing, such as how to add citations correctly and use Wikipedia's editing tools effectively.
Content Development & Review: It would be extremely helpful to have an experienced Wikipedia editor review my work before publication. A mentor or WikiProject member could provide feedback on the writing, sourcing, and structure to ensure it meets Wikipedia's standards. I plan to develop all my content in a "draft" area first. Having an experienced mentor review these drafts before they go live would be invaluable.
Question 2
I see this project (Kinematics of Sliding) as a starting point, not a one-off task. My main goal right now is to get the core article written and published. This means creating a good foundation that explains the mathematics for two or three basic cases where surfaces slide against each other while moving at different speeds and in some cases also in different directions.
After this first article is live, I plan to expand on it. The next step is to present real-world examples that show how this model is used in practical fields like manufacturing and tribology. This will make the subject much more useful and understandable for readers. For example, an important theme in hot rolling technology is related to controlling the tool (roll wear) rolling-sliding needs to be calculated to compare the wear of tools designed using different materials and/or designs. Furthermore, the so-called twin disc tester apparatus is used in tribology; in this configuration two discs rotate and slide against each other at different peripheral velocities. This is where the proposed model allows for analysis of the disc wear performance.
Furthermore, I am committed to staying active in the long run. I intend to use the experience I gain in preparing Wikimedia content to make more proposals and create other content for Wikipedia in the future.
