[edit]Hello Nanahuatl, and thanks for your proposal and for making clear the issue related to a gap of information about this topic about Turkish sports events between 1900-1990s. Please see my comments below:
- Thanks for your preparatory work in that 1) You have a list of sources to help prioritize what content to focus on, and 2) for communicating this idea to the Turkish Wikipedia community. Please see my comments and questions below:
- Because the success of this project depends on mobilizing a group of people to scan and upload a large body of sources, and that different kinds of resourcing is needed to support this work, have you contacted any affiliates in Türkiye about supporting any aspects of your project, namely Wikimedia Community User Group Turkey or Wikimedians of Turkic Languages User Group? If so, what feedback have you received? If not, I would like you to contact these affiliates as they may be able to support some aspects of the proposal, or may have feedback to help you improve the proposal.
- What expertise or background do you or others on your team have specific to scanning work and digitization of sources that will support your ability to review candidates?
- As a brief note, I've added the "2500 magazine pages" estimate to the metrics section under Wikimedia Commons based on your comments in the proposal.
- What is the rate in which participants will be paid to scan pages?
- The budget also contains a line item for an organizer fee of approximately $2000 USD. Who is receiving this fee? How was the fee determined, and for what tasks is the compensation specifically supporting?

- Hi @I JethroBT (WMF):. Thanks for your interest.
- I already have contacted with User:Satirdan kahraman, a librarian that lives in Türkiye. So he personally scans the availability of the magazines in various libraries, and helps me for the researching part. I have been told that the project needs "a person that lives in Türkiye" when my first application was rejected, therefore, I contacted with him. Besides, I have contacted with the Village Pump as I was asked, some members of the User Group as well.
- User:Satirdan kahraman is a librarian, and I consider myself as an experienced Wikimedian.
- Thank you.
- We have estimated that a $1 per page would be a fair amount. On the earlier application, I was thinking less than half of this amount, but I was told that "it's not possible". So I have raised the ammount and lowered the page. In any case, extra amount that we have will be used for more pages.
- That fee will be received by me and User:Satirdan kahraman (another thing that I was told, my first application didn't include this fee). What we do is investing our time and efforst for such a project, and it'd be a fair amount for this specific project, among with the possible future projects. And I have explained these financial details on the Village Pump, since I prefer to be 100% transparent for these issues.
- Please feel free to ask anything. Cheers. Nanahuatl (talk) 17:09, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
Feedback from a community member
[edit]I respect the applicant as a highly prolific contributor to Turkish Wikipedia. If funded, I have no doubt they will deliver on their proposal. However, regarding the choice of subject, I’m not sure if association football is the most resource-constrained area. It is already extremely well-funded, and mainstream media archives (such as Milliyet) provide "okay" alternatives. TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 21:57, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Nanahuatl, and thanks for your feedback above. Unfortunately, the proposal is not eligible for funding, as your block history on Turkish Wikipedia conflicts with our behavioral requirements and expectations for applicants. I have followed up with you over e-mail with more details. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 15:53, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- @I JethroBT (WMF):, I can just clean start and apply again, I think that requirement is a bit unfair. Or as far as I can see, many newbies can just apply and get a grant, after contributing a few pages. Being angry for something else and saying a bad word and getting blocked, prevents the Movement have some useful content. It doesn't make any sense to me. - @Nanahuatl: As I explained to you over e-mail, we expect that people who want to apply for movement funds will be role models for the Wikimedia movement, and consequently, applicants must maintain a high standard of behavior and conduct for themselves as editors. These are not the same standards as being able to generally contribute to Wikimedia projects, and they have purposefully been made higher, because there are significant consequences around trust and fairness that come from awarding movement funds to individuals whose conduct has recently or routinely been determined to be problematic or disruptive in the communities they participate in, regardless of how many contributions they have made. Starting a clean start account to apply for funding earlier than what would be otherwise required would not change any of these behavioral requirements, and frankly, it would feel like an attempt to circumvent these policies.
